Is this the cheapest a 4080 laptop has been? Surprised it's not a more popular deal. It's about 50-60% faster than the ~$1100-1200 4070 laptops. You don't usually see higher tier parts maintaining the same price per performance.
What's the catch?

i7, keyboard layout, thermals may not be the best compared to other brands.

I guess it's true that you'd normally see keypads on 17" laptops, but it's also refreshing to see full-sized arrow keys. Kind of looks like a TKL keyboard.

According to reviews, thermals are well managed on these Omens this year.
i7 is absolutely fine at this price. You won't get a 13th Gen i7 paired with 4080 and a good display, let alone an i9, for $1700.

And in 6-12 months it would be around $1500.
Feel free to wait till then.
Anyone who buys a laptop a month before black friday isint concerned with getting the best deal. Seeing as most of your posts are downvoted I wouldnt look to you for good deals anyways.

I have seen the MSI 4080 as low as $1600. This unit only has 16gb ram at 4800mhz, which is on the low side. Many 4080's will com with 32gb at 5600mhz. The panel at 370 nits, is also on the low end. Never been a fan of HP laptops myself, but that's personal preference.
I have an Omen 17 (11800/16gb/3070/QHD 300 NIT screen) that has been pretty decent. Much better than the 2070 Max Q I had before it. I can imagine this 4080 variant is excellent.
