It was really annoying to be forced to use an app only to have it fail doing things like firmware updates and simple stuff. The app has a hard time connecting remotely 80 percent of the time.
I've used a Chinese tenda device with no thrills, and Deco for years. These both perform better and more reliable than the net gear.
It's sad really. I used to prefer net gear years ago.
Get a Deco m5. They are a but more but they are rock solid and use the old style network protection that's free for life. Includes. Malware protection, filtering,parental controls and qos (also free for life) Very great units. I use them in a 3 story 2500sqft house.
Rock. Solid.
