in general, idea is for 1 phone. 1 at a time.
look the deal is "seemingly" complicated to begin with.
ultimately, cant get all permutations.

folks have to use a bit of logic, and also and this is big, read the posts.
lots of folks give good tips

plan doesnt matter.
its gonna be cancelled in 3-days anyway.

risk is minimum, if they do not let u cancel. which is rare.
port away, effectively cancelling everything.
making full payment due, immediately.
which is either the 299 or 99
no more than that.

u said:
Just risk of things going sideways for a phone that should simply be able to be bought outright for <$400

will usually sellers set price not buyers.
regardless if u think the phone outright should be

a phone that should be <$400.
unfortunately, that is not reality
cursory search says ip13 is abt 600 today.

apple will generally keep value
We have to do this at Walmart right?

Looks like I need Walmart+ to do this 11/8 at noon EST. Oh there is a free 30day trial

Two things missing. What plan is suggested? I need two phones.

The big issue is the risk. The risk of not being permitted to pay it off within the 3 days. Can you just hand back the devices? Then probably a restocking fee lol.

And I get it, just port the number out of Verizon which will cancel the account leaving a balance they wouldn't let you pay off. Just risk of things going sideways for a phone that should simply be able to be bought outright for <$400
I believe there is a buyer remorse period for all cell service contract sign-ons. That means if you failed to pay it off in 3 days, you can back out of the contract. Check your state laws.

Is this phone worth it at ~$350 with taxes prorated plan cost etc ..?

I see folks selling this phone for that much on FB.. so unless you are buying for personal use doesn't seem like the hassle is worth it to make a quick buck on resale
Anyone selling for $350 is a scammer. Look at eBay, swappa and back market prices.

Last I had checked Verizon was soft pull it clearly says so when you go through the checkout flow that creates a new Verizon account

can you further explain "port away, effectively cancelling everything." My plan would be to buy at walmart new vz customer. thats day 1. day 2, pay off and cancel. Let's say I run into issues, how to I go about porting away? Also, you say payment will be due immediately, does this mean the porting process is done through verizon website and it will prompt for payment? Thank you.

can you further explain "port away, effectively cancelling everything."
--has been a while. but essentially as soon as u port, the act gets cancelled.
V will bill u what is remaining due on phone immediately
(299 instead of the 8.3 every month).
V (the loosing carrier) is not involved in the prot process. other than giving u the port away information. that is unusually the act number. and port pin. and tel num. that info u give to winning carrier. once port is complted , V system trigger. this customer has left. hisbalance is due immediatly

-good plan. and u shld not have too much issue with day 2. some have and they have solutions. u need to read them. in a previous thread

see here

read posts from this thread very similar deal

Also, you say payment will be due immediately, does this mean the porting process is done through verizon website and it will prompt for payment?

--see above.

TBH.
now that i think about it
i would leave port away as absolute last resort.
really should not need to go to port away process

The value you are getting with this deal is not really worth the time investment/headache that is required to pull it off. You have to drive to corp store and convince the rep that you are paying it off with cash while they are trying to convince you that there is no such thing.
