I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

After 2 days of activation, can't you simply port the number out? Then Verizon should send you a balance of 299 to pay, right? In that case you don't have to go through the hassle of calling Verizon to pay off.

This seems a lot easier than the other steps given. Can anyone confirm if this would work?

My wonder is if they will waive the activation fee going that route. They may say you ported and didn't actually cancel. Even though they are realistically the same thing. You never know with the fine print from carriers. Just a thought.

At&t or Verizon? Did you do $2.77/month or pay off early? If at&t and no early payoff, were you able to submit unlock request? TIA
I did this through ATT. It's still on installments and unopened. Not sure if ATT follows the same 60 day requirement before submitting an unlock request

How did you upgrade? which career? can u pls provide steps. This means u didnt had to add any line - correct?
Correct, I didn't add a line and went through the process of upgrading my current XR, which I am still using. When you go through Walmart.com it will ask you to login into your ATT account so that you can choose which line to upgrade, similar to Best Buy or Apples website.

ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Doesn't the phone need to be active on a Verizon plan for 60 days for it to be unlocked?
No. Read the policy. It will unlock even after cancellation.

Verizon's website say the phone will unlock after 60 days even if the line is cancelled.

Does this basically make the AT&T a no-go if the sim-swap doesn't work? Otherwise you're stuck with AT&T for 60 days if you want it to unlock.

Or can you use another plan like the $300 AT&T plan after you port out? Would that count as "60 days of service" that's required for the unlock?

Actually, the pre-paid service probably won't work. Only post-paid AT&T will work when a phone is locked to AT&T postpaid.

I have had to unfreeze my credit even for soft pulls before. Not sure about carriers.
