I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

What is the reason you need to pay off the phone before cancelling. Can't I just cancel line and pay the remaining balance at the closing bill?
I saw someone saying they could make you return the device if you did it in that order. Though I doubt they would. This was always my plan if they wouldn't have let me pay it off. Just transfer the number out which will cancel the line and then pay the bill when it comes. But I'm trying to follow the guidance which has been used in past deals.

I have an update for today (Nov 9), which I added below.

Here's my iPhone 13 purchase journey.

* Nov 8 - 12pm: Ordered ATT iPhone 13 from Walmart. New Customer. Only paid tax ($26).
* Nov 8 - 3pm: Received a "welcome" email from ATT asking to verify email. It showed last 4 digits of account #, but since I do not have the full account # I cannot register.
* Nov 9 - 4pm: Received a new email from ATT titled "take action now to get access to your new service". The link inside the email let me register even though I don't know my account #. After registering, I now have access to the account # that ATT assigned to me.
* Nov 10 - ???: expect delivery of phone. Will keep updated as I want to register/payoff/cancel immediately so I don't have to incur any additional feels like prorated usage or activation.

edit: in addition to the Nov 9 update - poking around the site some more I was able to find my actual phone # assigned to the phone. also found the payoff section so I can technically pay off the phone right now. for those who have done this deal, but with an existing ATT account, what would you do in this situation?

edit 2: I decided to pay off the phone. it said it would take up to 24 hrs to reflect the payment, but it already charged my CC. wish me luck for tomorrow!
Thank you for detailed information. Question: does this deal work same way with ATT as VZ? Cancel within 3 days, no charges? I thought ATT required to have 2 months of active service. TIA

To pay off the phone for VZ, you don't really need to talk to any agent.
Just follow the following steps
1. Add credit card you want to pay to the online account for autopay
2. Dial 611, and ask for agent (not sure whether you have to do that), then the bot will ask you specific details. You just say "pay off device"
3. The bot will say something like he can help, and then just let him proceed. He will confirm the account and the credit you will use.
4. Then you are all done.

----
I chatted with several agents today, and I got even confirmation saying the device was paid off, but it was not. Finally I figured out an easy way.

There was something weird with ATT either bill credits or minimum active period.

Told my friend about this deal and he said he ordered the Verizon one but Walmart kept cancelling his order. He tried 3 times and all got canceled. Any ideas why? He said they said in the email something about fraud...

After verizon phone is unlocked, is it compatible with T-mobile? Can it be used abroad?

Did you order this from WM online and new account VZ customer? I can't get the online chatbot to do this as I have posted pages back. It says I must wait until 7 Dec which is 30days from order and activation of account. I'll get my phone delivered tomorrow and try this but honestly have my doubts that the phonebot will be different than the online bot.

Is there a way to call the 611 line without a Verizon phone? I haven't received the phone yet

Unfortunately don't know. Usually I do VZW but am doing this deal for a friend since he has ATT. Last year I did it with VZW by upgrading an existing line so it was easy to pay off.

It does not work for me. I called 8009220204 since I don't have Verizon cellphone, the bot let me enter the phone number and then enter the pin, later bot asked "calling about the recent order?" And I said no, then bot let me tell him what the calling is about, I said "pay off device", then the bot said it can be achieved from Mobile app or web site, then he said he sent a text message to the iPhone that has not been delivered and said use the link to chat with customer support, goodbye.

Interesting page there. Mine says " These devices aren't eligible to be paid off." But I did pay it off with a CS rep. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I'll give them a call to verify and then cancel.
Verizon phone will unlock automatically 60 days after "activation", which means device turning-on and connecting to VZW network. If you cancel the service (paid-off or not) before the phone is activated, the phone activation may not be able to connect to VZW network and may fail. Could that mean the phone won't be unlocked after 60 days? I get that VZW website may show the billing cycle already started the day the order was placed. But that still doesn't equate to phone activation.

My phone is scheduled to be delivered next Monday. So it will be beyond 3 days free-cancellation timeline, if we count 11/8 as the starting date. Dilemma...
