I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

So I made a new account on Verizon website with my Verizon number from the agreement. (However make sure you use an email because it will send email instead of thru phone number of phone that you may not have in hand yet) Downloaded Verizon app, signed in (again using email), added payment info/ credit card. Waited 10 min to update. Called Verizon after hours for the the bot and did the bot command mentioned above "pay off device". Bot used card on file automatically after I said yes to $299 and payment went through with email receipt. Now will make sure the line is technically active (however did talk with customer service the morning of all this and he said line was active already) but will cancel account tomorrow by calling. I DONT have phone yet.

Verizon phone will unlock automatically 60 days after "activation", which means device turning-on and connecting to VZW network. If you cancel the service (paid-off or not) before the phone is activated, the phone activation may not be able to connect to VZW network and may fail. Could that mean the phone won't be unlocked after 60 days? I get that VZW website may show the billing cycle already started the day the order was placed. But that still doesn't equate to phone activation.

My phone is scheduled to be delivered next Monday. So it will be beyond 3 days free-cancellation timeline, if we count 11/8 as the starting date. Dilemma...
Do we know for sure it must connect to be activated?

Alright guys. I am able to get everything done before the Verizon phone arrives tomorrow.
Looks like the new number is activated once Walmart ships it. I created my Verizon account when I made my purchase and it wouldn't let me link the phone number at that time, but the linking was successful earlier tonight. I chat with a Verizon online rep to confirm that my line was already activated before I preceded to cancel my new line.
I paid off the device by calling 18008374966 and asked the bot "pay off device" (credit goes to ldsp for figuring that out). Just try call them again if you can't get it to work the first time, maybe the bot just couldn't parse the command from your voice input. Make sure you enter a payment method on your account prior to the call. Once it is paid off, you should receive a payment confirmation email from them.
I used the online chat to ask them to cancel or disconnect my new line. The online rep also showed me the charges, including the prorated charges (11/9-11/10), govt fees and a $35 activation fee, total came out to be around $56. I told her that I am cancelling the line within 3 days so the activation fee should be waived off and she said she will make an exception to subtract the activation fee from the final amount, which comes out to be $14.22. The rep also mentioned that I will be charged the next month's bill in advance but it will be refunded back to me (not sure how that works though). At the end, the line was removed from my account before I even opened the new phone, maybe I will just put the unopened iphone13 in my drawer for 60 days Smilie

So the break down is $25.79 tax + $299.00 payoff + $14.22 VZN fees = $339.01

Good night everyone Smilie
$14 for one day of service that the phone was never used

Also random question, but consider you get the phone, and it's already paid off etc. (iPhone 13 for $299) You think I can try to upgrade for the iPhone 15 and trade in this 13? Since it says eligible for an upgrade? And do that within a month and be able to cancel it all? Lol (clarify the upgrade is credits and if paid off fully will be lost so this won't work) sad face

Currently I have tried many methods to try and pay off the phone today when my status changed on WM to "on the way" all pointing to waiting 30 days or when the first months bill generates. (CS #3 Prepayment, forced buy-out, supervisors, chat, calls). You can get a VZ account without a phone# or account# just a general account. But you need a active phone# in order to link. My guess is that when they are getting ready to ship out the phone, they need to pair your account/phone# with a IMEI device. It seems they will have activated using eSIM method so maybe already activated starting the date you get the FedEx tracking # which coincides with VZ recognizing your phone# from customer service end. This is when you can log in and link your account. Once linked, you will be able to do a chat while logged in. Pay off option from website tells me I can only pay off 12/9 a month after my activation date. The link from the chat to the pay off also just refers to the same.

In one of my many chat sessions, the CS mentioned that I could just cancel the account now and keep the device. When the account closes you won't have access to the web linked account but you will receive a bill which i would assume is for the pay off $399 (I got the 256GB version).

The plan from some suggestions in other posts: when I get my phone tomorrow i'm going to try another round of getting pay off. Deactivation/cancel seems to be the easiest part but is best after pay off is complete. I'm going to add CC on the account and maybe turn on autopay (not sure if necessary) so as a backup plan once phone in hand and activated I will just cancel account and let the card pay off the phone after since it seems from my chat they will NOT ask for the phone back even if you cancel before you pay off.
I went through the same steps except CS. I posted it previously. I used my phone number they gave during checkout and pin I put in and linked to my general account. As said about that's really different than the phone communicating to get the unlock code and "activated"? The written activated dates coincide with ordering the phone. I did add autopay and paperless trying to replicate what someone said and it didn't work on the web chatbot nor the link on their website just as you said. Both still give me I must wait 30 days not eligiibile to payoff. It shows my 299 and phone picture and description so it knows what its talking about.
It would help if people said New VZ customer or added a line or ATT new or added a line during their discussion or if it's just a guess. I'm going to do as you are and cross my fingers but I don't know if I can cancel as when I tried yesterday the chatbot wouldn't let me and said wait for a CS. I closed the chat because of fear of not following guesses of needing to use it a few days to get it to unlock which might be urban myth. I did not expect this much hassle to payoff the phone and do this.
I tried the chatbot on the phone as said at the top of the page. It would NOT work. It keeps saying I have a zero balance and there is no payment due. It will not recognize pay off device command. Again is this adding a line or already a VZ customer because no bots pull up a way to pay off device prior to 7dec is their given restriction.
Edit: I tried multiple times the top of this page guidance all to fail as it insists on "making a payment" in it's intent. I finally changed up the order of my words "device pay off" and it worked much thanks to the people who posted this info. BTW I'm VZ new customer and did add the card online for autopay so it was on file as someone said to have the phone bot able to use that.
Update. Having paid the phone off I returned to CS online chatbot. Typed cancel line and it requires CS not bot. Processed the cancelation and she said the activation fee can't be refunded until the first bill on 9 dec. Now we wait to see if the phone is unlocked in 60 day. My phone arrives today so all this was done without the phone in hand

I placed the order on Nov 8 and it's still showing status as 'Preparing'. Should I be concerned at this point? Estimated delivery date is shown as tomorrow 11/11.
In my opinion, yes I've ordered from Walmart before and they've done this and cancel the order there clowns for sure, mine says the same thing by the way.

I did similar deal from previous SD thread many years ago
- Verizon iphone SE from bestbuy

almost same as this WIKI instruction.

1. get the phone with installation postpaid plan. (since it is postpaid, credit check required)
2. pay off the phone day 1
3. cancel the phone # by porting out to other carrier within 3 days to avoid activation fee

the result is I got a unlock phone right away at discount price
---> At that time, Verizon iphone is unlock right away.

plus I was blacklisted by Verizon. I realized that when next year I tried to get verizon deal by using my SSN. it won't pass even my credit score is 800+

so beware to be banned later day by verizon
Many of us are going through these steps right now. We have the device in our accounts and have been able to pay the full $299 off. But the device is in transport and I won't get it until tomorrow.
So the question is to cancel/port out before ever getting the device in order to close account within 3 days? But how will the device be affected if the line is canceled before it is turned on? Or do we wait to get the device and then cancel and risk the activation fee?

How could you create an account without a phone number? I cannot see any phone number in my agreement. I cannot log in to my Verizon account without a username! How did you do that?
what is the difference between a corporate store and an Authorized store? when I search for corporate Verizon stores I only can see Verizon stores!
Somebody please help me with that. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
even with phone number, it is not possible to create account unless it's registered in their system for account creation. I have phone number since placing order at walmart, but still unable to create acct on verizon

For those who'd like to pay off the device through the bot, here is what I did:

0. Add credit card account to your Auto Pay payment method.
1. If you haven't received the cellphone, that's okay, just call 8008374966
2. The bot is going to repeat your cell number that is calling from and asking if this is number you are calling about, you can just say no.
3. Then the bot will let you enter the new Verizon phone number.
4. Since I'm calling during out of business hour, the bot is going to help me out and ask for the Pin.
5. The bot is going to let you describe what you are calling about "in one or two sentences"
6. I just said "I'd like to pay off the deivce"
7. The bot said "Alright I can help" and then is going to confirm pay off details including the amount of the dollar and the credit card you are going to use.
8. You simply say Yes and it is done! I received the email immediately.
Got all the way to step 7 then the bot said it was going to send a link to the device and then some seconds later it said to chat with someone and pay a $10 agent assistance fee or press 1 to continue. Then it said it was outside of hours or something and auto hung up.

Tried calling again and it said the same thing. After saying "pay off device" the bot said something like "Our centers are currently closed, please visit the app for assistance." Not sure why the bot would tell me this if I'm not trying to get transferred to an agent.

This is a mystery to me too. I purchased the device on 11/8, device was shipped on 11/9, and I could not register the number to an account until this morning. The activation papers showed that the phone was activated on 11/9, so when it was shipped. If your phone will arrive within 3 days, I would wait to cancel.

Not really sure what happens if your phone is paid off and then cancelled before it's ever turned on... big question being whether it will end up being unlocked properly, and whether we'll have problems with Verizon.

Ya this is also the conclusion I've come to.
11/8 purchased
11/9 shipped and Verizon document shows it was activated 11/9
11/9 I paid off with CS on the phone after some push reading the contract. Though I show a payment and the device charge is now removed from the bill, I hope she did it right.
11/10 day 2, sit on my hands
11/11 day 3, turn on device, make a phone call, transfer number out to USMobile which will cancel the line. I like the number and I think Verizon's number pool might be older so hopefully less spam.

Note: USMobile shows the IMEI currently as good so it appears that it would let me start service on the device. The question is, is it because the device hasn't been turned on? Maybe never turning on the device may to our benefit?

Yesterday when I purchased, Verizon wouldn't let me create an account. Today when the phone shipped it let me make an account.

I can see my first bill which is $131.49 for the cheapest plan for the first month which includes that activation fee. What a joke.

So tomorrow I should just bring Verizon corporate store $300 cash? Looking on the app, under the iPhone 13 device it will let me get a number transfer pin to port out the number so this will effectively let me close the account. It appears these steps can all be done without having the physical phone.

Edit- Also USMobile appears to like the IMEI and was willing to go ahead with the number transfer
you might run a risk by not activating your phone by putting physical sim inside and making couple of calls.

Is there anyone who bought this for their ATT existing line as an upgrade? I'm thinking of replacing a beat up Iphone 11 with this, but want to make sure it's as easy as: Order (as an upgrade), receive phone, pay off phone (is it through walmart or att?), get it unlocked in 60 days. I don't want my line to be tied down to a contract. Essentially, buy the phone, pay it off, and keep my monthly bill the same.
