This came out when the series 3/4was out…They're on series 9 now. Not tryna hate just seems like a super outdated "smart watch" Like buying a iPhone 8 in 2023 doesn't make a lot of sense. I mean $100 is still a chunk of change, so maybe worth it if you don't mind how outdated it is. Just seems like a waste of $ to me. Better to invest a little more and get a refurb series 8 for $225 or new for $250 during sales.
SE version 1 and 2 are nearly identical in performance, and the 8 just adds an always on display and EKG. If you don't need either those functions the extra $125+ is wasted.
IMO, the functionality of smart watches, and Apple specifically, is sorely limited. Often, I've found my Apple watch to "forget" its LTE plan, wroking over BT only and being "dumb" when my phone isn't around. The LTE requires re-enabling with the phone connection; actually, any major updates or functionality must be managed from an iPhone, it' can't function as a stand alone device. Not very useful if you're in an emergency (real or minor) and find out something has silently failed on the watch. Like most Apple failures, loss of fucntionaity and connection is a silent one - there is no indication that the watch has switched from LTE to BT or cannot perform other functions due to an error.
The biggest advantage is the tight integration with Apple-branded apps (maps, iMessage). Unless you're looking for the latest health functions, the SE will perform just as well as the full-fat series and a fraction of the cost.

Not really. The CPU from Watch 5 to Watch 8 is very similar. SE -1st gen has the series 5 CPU.
All of them have 32GB memory.
The major differences is the sensors like ECG, O2, etc and the always-on display. If you can live without those this is a super deal.
