It's back! Limited Time Offer!
Your points are worth 10%-50% more
Until 11/30/23 or while supplies last, your Chase points are worth more when you redeem for any product on the Apple® Ultimate Rewards® Store.*

Chase Sapphire Preferred is 25% more.
Chase Freedom Unlimited is 10% more.

https://ultimaterewardspoints.chase.com/

For example:

The $1199 iPhone Prom Max is 79,900 points (plus tax if applicable) if you have the Reserve (so retail * 66.7 points). Effectively 1/3 off at a penny per point.

If you have a card with a $99 ish annual fee, I suspect you get 25% extra (so retail * 80 points). Effectively 20% off at a penny per point.

If you have a no-annual-fee card, you likely get 10% extra (so retail * 91 points). About 9% off at a penny per point.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

But what if you aren't traveling much and need a new iPhone? Not everyone is looking for a 4 cent pp redemption on a round trip business class flight to Zimbabwe. Why not buy airline gift cards when they go on sale? (Like the recent Southwest cards at Costco).

Also worth noting you get extended warranty and purchase protection when you pay with points (you don't when you pay with gift cards).
You are really better off buying apple gift cards when they have promos or Amex offers to buy Apple giftcards for 20% to 25% off and using the UR points for travel to maximize the value.
I can get an iphone 15 pro for 66,600 points ($660 cash value points)

tempting

Wait, you think Chase is losing money when you redeem on travel? Haha. They make 2% interchange on your purchase and get a discounted rate from the travel providers they sell on their site that is much higher than the discount they're getting on these Apple products. There is no loss leader, they're always going to come out ahead.

JPMorgan Chase gross profit for the quarter ending September 30, 2023 was $39.874B - believe me when I say they don't care what you redeem UR points for and neither does anyone here.

Every time I read about how fantastic the UR points conversion is for travel, I look into it and come up with the same answer. It's near impossible for airfare if you have kids and have fixed travel dates. I've used them on hotels, which is easier to do... If I were still single -or without kids- with a flexible schedule, I would be spending my points on Emirates, too.
I mean I understand that, but that makes the issue a bigger one than how to spend your points. Why are you paying $550 annually for a card in which you cannot get a better return on your rewards? There's free cards out there that get you 2X pts on everything. There are cheaper cards that get you bigger multipliers. Surely 3X on travel and dining and marginally more to use their pisspoor portal is NOT worth that big annual fee.

Either save them until you can use them more efficiently, or give up the card.

Look, everyone can spend the points however they want. I'm sure there's someone out there that would argue they have a bunch of points and NOTHING to spend it on, and just want to take the 1:1 cash redemption. That's fine, do what you want. Just don't ask the more experienced users for their opinion and then get annoyed when they give it.

These redemption opportunities are universally inefficient. They just are. If you want to do it, nobody will stop you. Just stop asking if it's a good idea and getting annoyed when you're told it's not. I'm sure there's someone out there that would spend $5 on gum if they wanted a pack bad enough and nothing else to spend their money on, it doesn't mean someone else has to agree that it's a good decision.

No experienced CSR user will ever tell you that it's a good idea to spend your points in any way OTHER than transferring to travel partners. You may not always get 3-4-5+ cents per point, but 50% or less bonus is trash.
Since you quoted me, I'll respond.

Who do you think you are telling people what to do with their card? I did NOT ask for anyone's opinion on how to spend my points, and neither did anyone else in this entire thread. I was replying to another "more experienced user" who chimed in to give his expert opinion. Maybe the two of you can go on a first class Emirates flight together and share a suite at a Hyatt to celebrate your amazing redemption value.

Surely an expert level credit card guru like yourself understands there's a lot of benefits that come with the $550 annual fee other than the ability to transfer points out to other travel partners?

Mostly travel related benefits that pale in comparison to the actual rewards and efficient use therein. If you're paying $550 for priority pass membership and a global entry waiver once every five years you're a fool.

If you don't travel much there are better cards and rewards ecosystems that will more efficiently match your spending.

And why is even transferring to Hyatt complicated? It's just points you can use towards any number of hotel rooms, it's gonna work even if you have 5 kids. People probably just like the CSR design and feel so they pay $550 a year and dislike the way you tell them this is not even a deal.

Ultimate Rewards points are worth at least 1.5 for CSR and 1.25 for CSP. So this is absolutely 0% discount since you are using UR at their minimum value for an iPhone at a regular price. Quite straightforward.

And I know some of you don't like my point here and would say you simply don't travel. I actually feel super lucky that people are wasting UR points on these "deals" for really low values per point and feel really good about it, because your usage like this makes our UR usage on travel (such as Hyatt) a little more sustainable from the bank's perspective 😂 thanks for all the downvotes, you keep my UR's value up high.

Ok smart ass

Correct. In my case, the CSR was only worth it for the first year. Downgraded to CSP which is worth the AF just for the rental car benefits and no foreign transaction fees. I have other premium cards that are worth the AF for me, I get more rewards value from those than I can with even the best UR redemption with the CSR.

Like the Priority Pass, and the Global Entry every 4 years? Having access to this awesome deal to redeem UR at 1.5 cpp? The primary rental insurance which the CSP also has? All these for just $550? Wow
Stop being foolish. First of all, we all know the annual fee is actually $250 after factoring in the $300 annual credit (which is easily used up on tolls and other non-vacation travel spend). It's quite easy to justify another $250 in benefits between DoorDash credits, enhanced Chase offers, premium purchase and travel protection, etc. etc. etc. And YES, the ability to redeem points at 1.5cpp on Apple products is a benefit.
