It's back! Limited Time Offer!
Your points are worth 10%-50% more

Chase Sapphire Preferred is 25% more.
Chase Freedom Unlimited is 10% more.

For example:
The $1199 iPhone Prom Max is 79,900 points (plus tax if applicable) if you have the Reserve (so retail * 66.7 points). Effectively 1/3 off at a penny per point.
If you have a card with a $99 ish annual fee, I suspect you get 25% extra (so retail * 80 points). Effectively 20% off at a penny per point.
If you have a no-annual-fee card, you likely get 10% extra (so retail * 91 points). About 9% off at a penny per point.

Also worth noting you get extended warranty and purchase protection when you pay with points (you don't when you pay with gift cards).

I just placed an order and it actually let me use a different chase card (I used Chase Southwest). It now says that it'll ship in 8 weeks which is fine but just wondering considering the card will be canceled at the time the phone ships, will the order process?
For example, for a one stop rt from Dallas to Rome in on BA in March tickets are cheaper than the cash fee alone for using points.
Are CSR points really better for using for things other than air like this deal?
Also worth noting again that even if you were able to buy enough discounted Apple gift cards to buy your iPhone, you would be foregoing the credit card benefits such as extended warranty and purchase protection (which are valid if you buy with points).
You're assuming people have multiple Amex cards lmao
There are ways to add same offer to multiple cards.

First off, whether it is really better is going to depend on your situation. Some people are points rich and money poor, others money rich and points poor, or rich in both. You can decide the best way to use your points for your situation and not let someone else's situation dictate yours.
Having said that…the one thing I would say to consider is time. It takes time to know which transfer partners to use and which ones have higher fees and especially availability. If you have time in abundance and 'aspirational travel plans' then using your points for trips would be an option. To aid you are dozens of website and bloggers who have dedicated years to homing their craft and can give you all you need to know about the 'best' award travel options.
If you don't have that much time and don't have the desire to jump into the hole of award travel…redemption for stuff like these apple products works too.
Do what works best for your situation and plans based on how much time you want to spend in effort in either regards.

I guess I'm points middle class and time poor.

when Covid hit, they used to have 1.5x offers to pay yourself back for grocery purchases and those were nice.
I'd say then, do whatever will maximize your time. If paying cash and using your UR points for stuff gives you more time to enjoy life and relationships..do it.
If you just want to use your points regardless, to burn through your stash, use em and pay the fees. Or redeem for Apple products if that fits your needs too.
Worse case scenario, redeem for cash to pay yourself back after you buy your cash tickets. In any event, time is way more valuable so do what will give you more time.

Yes, the Reserve and I suspect JP Morgan Chase card are the only ones with 50% bonus.
