If you have purchased any of these dressers or cabinets within the last 14 days at the original price, contact IKEA customer support and ask for a price protection reimbursment. As long as the purchase was within the last 14 days they will reimburse you. I paid $220 for the BRIMNES 4 drawer dresser on Oct 20th and since it was within 14 days they offered me a $50 refund (between the sale price and what i paid). If you have their family plan, it would be covered for 90 days. Very helpful if you got some of the more expensive items on sale.

I disagree. I recently bought a house twice the size of my last so I had a bunch of furniture to buy. I tried Walmart, Home Depot, target, costco, home goods, some local place, and ikea. Many pieces returned and I still have a piece from HD, Costco & Target. But I am most happy with my IKEA pieces. My house is now well over half IKEA. They just hold up with nice veneers and look great.

IKEA you can get a nice strong king bed for $700. Costco was like $1200 and was paint slopped, off gassing, low quality bed board swaying. IKEA does use a lot of real wood pieces but does use lower quality where it doesn't matter and I have no complaints from my 4 bedroom sets (Idanas, Hemnes & Malm). There are certainly very fancy places that charge $4k for a bed. I just don't understand the price when IKEA is so close at a fraction of the price. I'd rather add more to my investments.

I like IKEA quite a bit, interesting to me how feisty a lot of these comments are.

Even for manufactured wood products, they're way more solid then they have any right to be. I got a lightly used Malm dresser when I moved to a new city as a 20 year old. Well, 15 years had passed and I still have that same Malm dresser. I've moved an inordinate amount of times (maybe 15-20 times? I had a couple years where things weren't awesome and I moved a 3-4 times a year)
The only thing that's broken on it are a couple of the superficial pieces between drawers, amusingly due to me over filing drawers and trying to close them, no damage from moving.

Every other IKEA item I've had has been worth the amount I paid for it. Some are super cheap and work for a short while, but the mid to high range items usually surpass my expectations.

I also like that I can order a matching piece from a set years later, like 10 years after getting my dresser I got matching end tables.

2. You're really paying for the easy assembly, customer service, and consistent production quality. Amazon furniture may look similar for cheaper, but it'll be more frustrating to assemble, generally speaking. I personally have only good things to say about their call support.
Weird that you say consistent quality in good terms for ikea. When I moved, the mover is not willing to insure my ikea furnitures but they will insure my non ikea sofa, bed frames, TV console and other non ikea large furniture. They said ikea furnitures breaks super easy

Good luck putting this bad boy together, may 4 hours.
I bought this earlier this week and it took me 90 min lol. Ikea is legos for adults

I also wouldn't pay over this price for this dresser. I used a 25$ movers coupon and Wells Fargo 10% cb. Still just barely happy with the quality for the price.

How are some of these normally $5-600 with all fake wood? I can understand the sub $300 ones.
Hemnes is solid pine, except for the drawer bottoms

I've been very happy with it

The main difference is that the IKEA furniture is not glued together

If you used wood glue while building IKEA you would have the same as the other cheap furniture options

Agreed, I've had Hemnes chests, armoire, nightstands, and one bed for years. My only complaints were that the wood is soft so it scratches/dents easily, and the bed would make one crack sound when I climbed in each time (but it had been moved twice and I didn't spring for the expensive slats).

I just wish IKEA had nicer looking designs. Hemnes was the only line that had a nice look to it. Everything else is pretty bland or weird. And the cinnamon rolls are absolute crap now.

Eventually the scratches will become 'distressed'

Very trendy

The HEMNES 8 drawer is nice, but I would recommend getting wood glue to secure the dowels when you assemble it.

I think Ikea is okay, but overrated. My uncle is a master carpenter and cabinetmaker. He has only been in the trade for around 40 years. Ikea has been around far longer (since 1943) and their furniture is nowhere near as good as his.

How much is Ikea paying you for for this post?
I wouldn't know, but it is probably in Kronas.

I bought the HEMNES 8 drawer for my kid about 6 years ago and love it. It is solid wood, the drawers are smooth, there is a chameleon terrarium on top of it for the last 3 years (screen walls, humidifier and water drip) and there hasn't been any swelling of the wood. I'm tempted to grab another for my other son.

I bought the HEMNES for 441$ last month, now it is 279$. Any experience in getting a refund ?
I do not want to return and buy as I have already assembled it.

Quality isn't great. Good for dorms/rental properties. Save up for something better made if you can.
something better by paying $1000?
