If you have purchased any of these dressers or cabinets within the last 14 days at the original price, contact IKEA customer support and ask for a price protection reimbursment. As long as the purchase was within the last 14 days they will reimburse you. I paid $220 for the BRIMNES 4 drawer dresser on Oct 20th and since it was within 14 days they offered me a $50 refund (between the sale price and what i paid). If you have their family plan, it would be covered for 90 days. Very helpful if you got some of the more expensive items on sale.

I disagree. I recently bought a house twice the size of my last so I had a bunch of furniture to buy. I tried Walmart, Home Depot, target, costco, home goods, some local place, and ikea. Many pieces returned and I still have a piece from HD, Costco & Target. But I am most happy with my IKEA pieces. My house is now well over half IKEA. They just hold up with nice veneers and look great.

IKEA you can get a nice strong king bed for $700. Costco was like $1200 and was paint slopped, off gassing, low quality bed board swaying. IKEA does use a lot of real wood pieces but does use lower quality where it doesn't matter and I have no complaints from my 4 bedroom sets (Idanas, Hemnes & Malm). There are certainly very fancy places that charge $4k for a bed. I just don't understand the price when IKEA is so close at a fraction of the price. I'd rather add more to my investments.

You can tell it's still overpriced because a gladiator shelf is cheaper.
Classy home decor. 😆

I bought the HEMNES 8 drawer and night stand in blue back in 2014-15 when I worked overnight stock at IKEA. Has stood up to moving states in 2020. Still have both and don't want to lose my blue bedroom setup. Great quality but I agree with comment about it being a softer wood so it dents/scratches easily. But it does give it that aged look now with the few I have.

I agree Hemnes is great, solid and looks good. I have several and they have stood the test of time and are classics in my view.
The issue I have with IKEA is how much they increased their prices over the last few years. I think they were price gouging like a lot of companies and blaming inflation. These sales prices is IKEA selling them at what they should be selling for in the first place.

Agreed. I got my bedroom set for like $600 less and it was only a couple years ago.

Bought one of these for my daughter and it was the worst to put together. I'm no Bob Villa but damn it sucked!
IKEA is the easiest to put together by far, crystal clear instructions that need to be followed though.

Whoa-why is everyone saying Hemnes is solid wood??? It's laminate mdf for like 90% and think pine for the drawer sides (not faces). Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be said for a top being made of composite, but real wood???

How are some of these normally $5-600 with all fake wood? I can understand the sub $300 ones.
the hemnes ones are actually real wood, i've had one of the larger chest ones for over 10 years and it's still going strong, moved twice with it already.

Hemnes is solid pine except for the back and the drawer bottoms. Check the product page if you're still in doubt.

Because I'm looking at my current Hemnes set of chests and nightstands right now (purchased in 2021) and everything but the drawer bottoms and backing is solid wood. I examined it thoroughly before typing this reply. I've assembled many a packed furniture piece and am very familiar with MDF, so I definitely know the difference…

Edit: Maybe the different colors are different material? I've only owned the dark brown and gray stained ones. I recall an in-law's white set having a more laminate type of veneer but that was years ago. I don't think they sell those anymore.

I'm sitting next to a white stained Hemnes sideboard that's solid wood throughout minus drawer bottoms and backing. It's nicer than anything I would've found at a traditional furniture store for the price.

We've been using a white Hemnes 8 drawer as our primary dresser for like 7+ years now and it's held up great - much better than cheaper IKEA options like Malm series stuff we used to have.

I like IKEA quite a bit, interesting to me how feisty a lot of these comments are.

Even for manufactured wood products, they're way more solid then they have any right to be. I got a lightly used Malm dresser when I moved to a new city as a 20 year old. Well, 15 years had passed and I still have that same Malm dresser. I've moved an inordinate amount of times (maybe 15-20 times? I had a couple years where things weren't awesome and I moved a 3-4 times a year)
The only thing that's broken on it are a couple of the superficial pieces between drawers, amusingly due to me over filing drawers and trying to close them, no damage from moving.

Every other IKEA item I've had has been worth the amount I paid for it. Some are super cheap and work for a short while, but the mid to high range items usually surpass my expectations.

I also like that I can order a matching piece from a set years later, like 10 years after getting my dresser I got matching end tables.
I agree with this. Almost half our house is IKEA now as well, and we've never had any issues with quality. We love the look, for cheaper than other stores that offer a modern look, and quite sturdy.
I bought some cabinets from IKEA, and later wanted to save money and got similar looking ones from Menards for almost half the price…but I could sure tell a quality difference. IKEA's construction was much sturdier.

Bought one of these last year. Spent a month trying to off gas what seemed to be the glue. Never could get rid of the smell, even after leaving the drawers in the summer sun for weeks. Gave up and returned the dresser.

Wow, i have the white for the kids' room and it's definitely laminate. So you're saying the colored ones are actually wood? That's super impressive in this price range even if it's softwood. I wonder why the white would be composite. And getting back to this posting, is it safe to assume the Hemnes is actually wood then?

the hemnes versions are real solid wood, not MDF or OSB
