can't speak for nationwide or outside of the country but i've noticed used chair prices coming down. you can definitely find aeron remastered in my area for 400-500 which is considerably cheaper than retail. i'd say these chairs are fairly hard to put wear on so to me buying new isn't slick.
I finally found someplace that sell refurbs and it was $800. Was extremely disappointed considering the new price on the sale.
$1,000 for an office chair that is "On Sale" ? No Spank you!
People have no qualms paying 1k+ for a sofa or lounge chair that they might use 2 or 3 hours a day but balk at paying 1k+ on a chair they sit in 8 hours a day. I just find the logic humorous.

Or $1000 on a phone they're for sure going to replace in a few years
I ask them to take picture of the sticker underneath the chair, it has the serial and mfg date. When in person you just need to sit in it and do all the adjustments and double check the sticker
The weight of the chair is pretty obvious. And the thick padding. There is no comparison between a fake and commercial chair. I've got a 9 to 5 Seating office chair and it weighs a ton. It replaced a Herman Miller chair and is actually more comfortable.

Get the Atlas Headrest for the Embody! It's just as versatile/customizable as the chair itself and makes the chair twice as comfortable. I promise you won't regret it!
I've had one for 3 years now and that headrest sits too far forward and gave me neck problems after a while
These are good chairs, don't get me wrong. But I've had an Aeron (size C) at my office for the last 20 years, and I absolutely hate it. It just isn't comfortable to me at all. When I decided to buy a good chair for my home office, I got a similarly-styled Lenovo chair (from a Slickdeals post) for around $350, and I love it. Absolutely love it. And I am a big guy, but the Lenovo chair I bought has held up perfectly through about five years of full-time telecommuting, so take that for whatever it's worth. I am not knocking this deal at all, but I'm just saying there are some really good, comfortable alternatives for a lot less money. But if you know you want a new Herman Miller, this is a great price.
I'll also throw this out there – because a lot of companies are downsizing their leased space footprint, you can find these chairs being resold fairly easily in just about any major metropolitan area. I've seen used Aeron chairs in mint condition go for $600 or less, and chairs with some wear and tear sell for even less. You can easily get replacement parts if needed, even seat pans. I've even seen people buy broken Aerons, fix them up, and flip them for a profit. So that's another way to go if you're on a budget and can be patient waiting for the right deal to come along.

To get the full length of the warranty, I think this deal is better than buying used or refurbished elsewhere
