Quick reminder: Vudu will let you keep 3 gift cards on file at one time.

So if you buy 5 Vudu gift cards, you can list three of them in the Payments section of your account. You won't be able to store the other two there until you have spent the entirety of a giftcard's value and it drops off from your account.

Are you responding to disc to digital redemption? Do you mean scanning upc from the Internet or your personal collection? I still have a ton more DVDs and Blu-rays I need to scan. How could they tell/ what triggers the ban hammer? Do you have proof?

Disc to digital is nice, but it doesn't always work. I would say it works more than half the time. It doesn't like boutique stuff. I have been having issues with it redeeming stuff from shout factory, anime, or just esoteric stuff. One movie I remember scanning (Versus) it didn't like, but I saw I could still buy it at full price. I was thinking about looking for another upc for it online.
Vudu disc to digital tracks your account info via. your IP address.

If you are at your IP location example ( home ) based on your account then processing disc to digital is simple scan the barcode using the Vudu app camera on your smart phone and if it's a valid code the conversion price is listed DVD to HDX or Blu-ray to HDX .

There is a total amount of 100 Disc to Digital conversion that can be done in a rolling 12 month cycle. Meaning if you redeem 100 titles today the account wont reset until this same time next year.

100 movies converted = 200.00 dollars based on the 2.00 cost per movie.

Also.. some movie companies such as DISNEY / 20 Century FOX / Pixar / SONY do not allow for disc to digital redemptions. So check back of cover or spine to see who made the movie.

It's a calendar year, not a rolling 12 months.

Isn't the target deal better if you have a redcard for 5% off?

I went via target. 20% off then 5% off. 5% is off AFTER the 20%. They do $100 email cards. Got $400 for $304.

Does anyone have a link to a site with reliable information on which Vudu movies are Disc 2 Digital eligible?

This. Seems like they hardly ever add more D2D movies for 2-3 years now, not the website but Vudu in general. Good for those of you who are just hearing about this though, their selection of good movies is quite large.

If you use too many of these on your account, you will be cut off from redeeming them, period.

I was speaking about the redemption of the vudu gift cards. I believe my account was capped at 40 redemptions.
I'm amazed but sadly not surprised nobody else has commented on this. It's like saying to a bunch of people "hey, you're drinking contaminated water" and almost everyone just shrugs and keeps on drinking it.

Imagine if Apple cut you off after redeeming a certain number of GCs. People would be pretty angry, but we know Apple wouldn't do that. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Vudu/Fandango.

This is a pretty major thing to say because if Vudu blocks each account at 40 GC redemptions, then you're forced to use multiple Vudu accounts which is a pain in the neck. It also means you should buy large GCs instead of small ones which I didn't know when I recently bought several small ones thinking it doesn't matter.

Nobody else has ever mentioned this before, so now I'm on the fence not knowing if KushConnoisseur is right or not.

Has nobody else here redeemed at least 40 GCs in the same account over his lifetime to disprove this? I don't think I will buy any more Vudu GCs until I have an actual answer.

disc to digital is a great service. I wish apple would offer something similar.
I agree, But then you wouldn't purchase the movie from iTunes and Apple wants your $. That's terrible to offer VUDU gift cards then BAN you from using. What's the point??

This is beyond disturbing. I know VUDU/Fandango is a fraudulent company. Just look at Fandango's 1.5 star rating on sitejabber. I'm not surprised that they are trying to screw us. But this is definitely a fraud considering that they are the ones selling GC on their website. So what happens if I reached this phantom 40 limit and I'm stuck with the GC I purchased from their website?

Do you find any fine print that states there are a limit to the number of GC you can use per account? I'm in the same boat, as I have purchased many $25 bundles from Newegg. I'm sure I already reached my half life if this 40 limit is true.

This changes everything. It means that from now on, whenever VUDU and iTunes are having the same deal, I'm buying from iTunes from now on.

Sadly, I was stuck with the two extras that I had purchased. I ended up giving them to my work wife.

I have started only buying through iTunes. The quality is better. Vudu has a lot of things limited to 1080p or SD that are available on iTunes in higher resolution.

Best of luck

I looked at the Vudu FAQs and read the GC sections. Not a word about any redemption limits. I then spent some time Googling on this subject using "Vudu gift cards" and variations of the words limit, restrictions, etc. I again found nothing useful, so I next restricted it to reddit. In the reddit threads I skimmed I found no posts mentioning any GC redemption limits. I admit I'm not very good at searching so maybe I didn't use the magic combination of words, but apart from KushConnoisseur saying so there's basically nothing I can find on the Internet to confirm this.

I don't doubt that KushConnoisseur had issues with redeeming his gift cards. I don't have a very good opinion of Vudu/Fandango as a company either, so I could believe they might have a secret redemption limit of 40.

The part I don't get is how can nobody else have encountered or posted about this issue on the Internet over the years unless Vudu just recently made this change? Surely KushConnoisseur can't be the first person ever to try to add 40 Vudu GCs to the same account? Is it possible another issue was at play here?

I will certainly be more cautious about buying Vudu GCs, and this just gives me another reason to favor iTunes (besides Apple is a much bigger/better company). However, the worst case is you'd have to use another Vudu account to use up remaining GCs if you hit this possible 40 limit. Then you'd have to log in and out on your streaming device which is a pain.

I'd really like to hear other sources confirm this. Until then I'm taking this with a grain of salt and will consider this an unconfirmed possibility.

I think maybe your account got flagged for fraud of some sort?

I called several times about it since it happened, and they have always stated that I have reached a limit on the number of gift cards I could redeem. If others have better experiences, that is great. I'm simply trying to let others know what happened with me over several years of redeeming gift cards with them. I didn't go crazy with them either, redeeming 1 or 2 every other month or so.

I appreciate you posting your experience. I like to take into account all "data points". I still think other issues may be afoot in your case SOLELY because I couldn't find anyone else saying the same thing online, but your story has caused me to be more cautious on my Vudu GC purchases. In particular rather than stock up, I would probably only get 1 at a time and for a higher dollar amount to not hit 40 as quickly. However, my gut still tells me that if there were a 40 GC limit per Vudu account, by now other people would've hit the 40 limit and posted about it somewhere. I believe your story, but my guess is the Vudu reps are telling you one thing when it's probably something else. I wouldn't be surprised if the "gift card limit exceeded" error message encompasses other things.
