Can we get a good 4090 laptop on sale that is not a Alienware ugh! This is still overpriced even on sale.
The Lenovo Legion with 4090 went on sale for around this price about 2 months ago. I suspect we'll see plenty of gaming laptop deals as we approach black Friday

True.
But with half the RAM and 1/4th of the storage if I may add.

Yes, with some of the 4080's dropping to around $1700 recently, I am hoping the 4090's go down to 2k- $2200 soon. The lower tier models always seem to have better sales, probably because they make many more of them than the top of the line units.

True, but the Lenovo had a better screen, something you can't upgrade.

The problem with the current Alienware m16/m18 design is that some marketing/esthetics clown got involved and screwed up the "feet" (more like a perimeter wall) on the bottom. Alienware laptop thermals vary by model/year, but the current version is just bad. It isn't a big deal on the 18" model because massive DTR laptops have so much extra space to breathe, but the 16" benefits significantly from either setting m16 atop a laptop cooler, or cobbling together something that creates a larger air gap underneath.

That aside, of course slicksters will always hunt for the lowest price, but damn y'all… I mean the screen is really the only nitpick here since this build targets the competitive fps etc crowd; everything else is top shelf and that NEVER comes cheap.

I'd prefer 16x10 wqhd 500 nits screen, 32GB ram, the cherry kb upgrade (and a lower price of course). Hard to complain about the ssd because even with it being a $200-400 markup, at least it'll be useful for the lifespan of the laptop and not require an upgrade. You could add in another ssd for 8tb total. Your 2010 self is blown away by this beast!

Also, the commenter talking about 9.5 hours of battery life on a gaming laptop etc… apples and oranges nonsense. You do realize that requires shutting off all power to the discrete gpu, reducing refresh rate to 60 Hz, throttling cpu performance, lowering display nits, etc? I'm pretty sure this Alienware can do most of that too (reboot required). Plenty of gaming laptops in that scenario get 5-7 hours of battery life, it just depends on how much inconvenience you are willing to tolerate.

Depends on what you play and how much you value your non-gaming screen clarity , but this is essentially a downclocked desktop rtx 4080 which is either:

- insane overkill and poor scaling/value at 1200p

Or

- massive future-proofing for the incoming wave of Unreal Engine 5 games and their STIFF requirements for ultra eye candy (see Alan Wake 2). At 1200p, you'll be rock solid for at least 3-4 years of 60+ fps gaming, perhaps more.

I used a 27" 1080p screen attached to my Alienware m15 and it served me well from 2018 till ~2022 when I got tired of my wimpy mobile gtx 1660 ti struggling for 50+ fps. That laptop cost me ~$1400 back in 2018. This more expensive laptop will give you a vastly superior gaming experience for at least the same amount of time, and you'll have the benefit of dlss and the slowed pace of gpu improvements to aid you going forward. With a battery swap. 2-3 years from now, I wouldn't be surprised if this thing is still going strong 5+ years from now, and in the near-term you could output via Wi-Fi to a 4k tv or, hook it up to a higher resolution monitor for premium fun.

1080p, ffs...
It's aceptable. With such an insane processor and ram and gpu it needs to power, using a more powerful display would probably have given a mere hour of battery life. Besided this is a a portable desktop it's not really a laptop laptop that you would use at starbucks. Like a apple air laptop for example with 10 hours of battery.

This is something you just move around and plug into your 4k monitores. Besides you don't want 4k on such a small display anyway

It won't. It will consume over twice the power and maybe get 60% more performance. It will not run "circles". The CPU will definitely not run circles. It's wishful thinking by desktop people who want to validate their exorbitant purchases. And I am saying this as a desktop person who spent $2000+ on my last setup.
The mobile GPU is not the same as the desktop, this is not just a case of the card being undervolted/underclocked. It is a different (see lower tier) board, it just happens to share the 4090 name because of marketing, you should research parts more before going off about them, and you clearly have not
