You are right. Since lowes doesn't prorate, when you go to return one you must return both. Maybe ymmv for the one in a million chance you get an unaware store associate, but highly unlikely if even possible.

As referenced on the 'hackable' question, it's a difference of proration. HD for example, buy batteries and tool for ~$200, return tool, then batteries are ~$100. Haven't seen these batteries $99 as a single item, nor $99 + free tool.

Unfortunately most likely not. At least not in the past. With lowes if an item is "free" then no you have to return both but if it is "buy more save more" then lowes is also hackable just like depot

It's not 100%. I've got rejected on many returns saying I have to return both. And some employees give you the stare.
