Looks like a decent ski shell. However, I would have liked to see some vents like pit zips. I use an Omni heat fleece under my shell, I prefer layers to a heavy jacket. Omni heat works well but only when active. I would resist buying this as a general use winter jacket.
Returns in store is free. You get 20% off if you buy something else that day.

Returns through mail is $6
It is designed as a purpose built ski jacket. So the insulation should be fairly light because it is designed for an active sport (except lifts and lines). If I were to guess it's Columbia "warmer" rating means it'll be good to low 20s before adding heavier weight layers.

For general purpose, are you suggesting it won't be very warm?

I've had this for a while, and run hot while skiing. I wish this had pit vents. Otherwise it's a nice affordable ski jacket, and served me well in -10 high wind conditions with appropriate layering. In my experience, Columbia runs large.

Can this be an outer shell with 3 to 4 layers inside for very cold, windy conditions?

We have this jacket, bought it for $130 thought it was a good deal then, will get a different color since its below $100.
It's perfect our alpine weather. We live in 5600 elevation and we get plenty of snow during winter and this does it's job with a light long sleeve underneath. We've shoveled snow, sled down the hill, picked up mail in withering storm in this. It's a snow friendly jacket that keeps us warm while moving around without overheating. Columbia does run a bit large but its meant for you so that you can wear some stuff underneath. but like other folks on the thread have mention, it can get warm, and it's not a terrible thing, i usually just unzip

I've had a Columbia jacket for almost 15 years and it still gets used. I've been looking for a newer looking one purely for aesthetics. That thing has sold me on the brand. In for one.

No armpits zippers. Not for me, I like having ventilation for spring skiing

Do you think you can return to an outlet/factory store?

An outlet near me in Detroit, MI just confirmed they can be returned at that factory store.

Columbia uses lasership or OnTrac delivery services. My package arrived in my city and kept it for a couple of days. Now the status shows Delivered, but nowhere to see the package. Worst of the worst.
