If you need a screen this large and don't want to pay the image quality penalties associated with a projector, there are still better options than this that are also cheaper. e.g. Best Buy has a 98" TCL S5 for $3500, which beats this TV overall on rtings. Best Buy also has a 100" Hisense U8 for $4000, which again wins on rtings. I know that the panel on these XL TVs is often different so take the rtings review with a grain of salt.

All that money for a TV without Dolby Vision. I wish Samsung would just give in already and support it.

The TCL was actually down to $2999 in September. Hoping Black Friday will bring this price back to atone for my regret of not buying it then.

Like you said, "take the Rtings review with a grain of salt", especially since the only thing that holds up is the Rtings U8 review. Rtings hasn't reviewed the 2023 TCL S5 series, so you must be referencing a prior S5 review, which would have local dimming... the 2023 TCL S5 series does not. Finally, the Rtings Q80C review is for an ADS/IPS panel, and this 98" version has a VA panel, so it will perform a lot better than the Rtings review suggests.

I have gone with 77" OLED to finally, first time in my life, to have 100% blacks. Not sure if I want to go larger but worse dynamic contrast so soon..
