For anyone who is curious what this device is used for...
One main option and huge benefit is when you're traveling and using hotel Wifi this device will set up its own wifi network that runs a VPN on the unit itself and all traffic funneled thru this device will be thru the VPN. so you only need to connect to the hotel wifi, accept the terms and conditions, turn on the VPN, and now all your devices are tunneled thru the VPN. so you don't need to set up your VPN on every device.

one example of my main use is that when we travel, I bring my chromecast and Amazon echo dot. because I set it up before we leave. When I turn it on and get connected, all my devices connect automatically and funneled thru the VPN. I'm able to stream my own shows thru the chromecast, and I can set timers, alarms, play audiobooks, music, etc, thru the echo dot.

I power it thru a USB charging block with 5 ports and charge all my devices over night and power this unit. but you can also power it thru a portable battery, which is one benefit of using this device over the newer ones. if you like you can also bring along a battery operated Wyze cam and use it to monitor the hotel room when your gone.

It's got VPN software to pair with your VPN service. It doesn't have a VPN itself.

I got this in 2020 for $20 new on Amazon. Is this good now with all the other newer Gli Net routers? I think it's very slow dated for vpn etc right ?

I bought the beryl travel router a few months ago. Is this device still useful or does the router do the same thing?

Probably via his phone so that the hotspot device limit isn't just 1 other device... The router(?) will be that one device, but it can have other devices also connect to it. Something like that

Why bother? ur phone can do the same
Your phone has an ethernet port that can provide a captive login page and automatically acts as a wifi or wired repeater without using hotspot data? That's one hell of a phone you got there, McFly.

Run it on plane wifi so you can use a single paid connection for all your and your friend's devices.

Also can tether to your phone to use phone data instead of hotspot data. That's a rabbit hole I'm not walking you through though, but you can Google EasyTether + Glinet for details.
I was using it tethering a visible phone as I live in a rural area where internet is ridiculously priced.

This is just VPN hardware instead of installing VPN client on each device. You still need to purchase a VPN service and configure this device to it.

Connect this to your phone and other phones can use it as access point. Why would you do this instead of just using WiFi hotspot on your phone? One reason is that you can run easytether on the router so that it doesn't count as tethering (you don't need a plan that supports tethering)

I own a few of these routers and they're great! They're good for coffee shop, hotels, vacation rentals, the office. I use a Beryl model as an extender for the other side of the house. A lot of good Youtube videos on what these can do and how to set them up.

Actually, Samsung phones can share the wifi that it connects to via an alternate SSID.

When traveling you can use this instead of capture portal wifi when the room has Ethernet. Your devices can be preconfigured, perhaps using same ssid and password as your home wifi. Also allows streaming devices that don't support capture portal login.

Is the EasyTether different from the built-in tethering capability of this Mango travel router? I browsed the EasyTether process using WinSCP and Putty. The built-in tethering capability just needs attaching your phone to the usb using a cable.

That won't hide TTL. Easytether app hides TTL so you pull from native data instead of hotspot.
