The a7ii is more than capable, the kit lens is more than capable. The a7ii is one of the cheapest full frame with ibis you can get. Under 800 and it's a steal.

The only real benefit if you don't have ibis is maybe better lowlight performance but tbh low light is difficult even with high end gear.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I don't have a camera and would like to buy a new one (mainly take photos in daily life and traveling). The price of Sony A7ii really attracts me after I compare with other cameras, particularly it is a full frame camera. I just want to use it for photography but not videography, I saw many people say it is an old camera, does anyone can give a comment on Sont A7ii or are there any other cameras that can beat Sony A7ii within this budget (around 1000 USD with camera and lens)? Thanks!

I mean the image quality is going to be about 90% as good as any new camera today. The main drawbacks to an a7ii in 2023 is 1) it uses the old battery type which really doesn't last that long, 2) the auto focus is not good (sony really nailed autofocus in the a7iii era), and 3) the resell value isn't great. I miss mine because it was cheap and noticeably lighter weight than all the newer models. I would recommend seeing if you can find it cheaper on say keh or mpb, but if you're just taking stills, I think it will serve you well.

Thanks for the reply! That helps a lot, I am not an expert on camera but I feel like the drawbacks of Sony a7ii is not as bad if it just for causal photography. I will also check other websites to see how are the prices, thanks!

Is A7 II still worth it? Any opinion on the 28-70mm lens? I am on the APSC and considering upgrading. Appreciate your suggestions TIA.
I am not going to recommend a7m2. There is no silent shutter. I went from a6300 to a7s2. Extra megapixels are only good for cropping and pixel peeping. It is almost impossible to differentiate after editing and printing. I also bought a7r2 and a9. I rarely use a7r2 because it is slow to focus (compared to my other cameras). A9 is fast and has faster frame readout, so less banding in led environments. Apsc to fullframe gain only 1 stop of light.
28 to 70mm is 'normal lens. If you want a workhorse, get it. I usually perfer ultra zoom. 28 to 200. Something with more versatility. You can edit in post for color saturation. Beware of color fringing.

Get A7 IV from the deal and pick up a lens either from the deal or 2nd hand from FB market place or offer up.
Your lens is your life. Your camera can get better. Buy the camera used. Buy the lens from a store that you can return.

Lens cost more than the camera. Check the camera out and see if there is any problem. Lens fungal and mis alignment due to bumps is going to ruin your day. Check for color fringing.

For traveling, I would recommend apsc for easier carry. Smaller lens with longer reach (crop factors). Smaller sensors usually easier get everything in focus. If you are only traveling during the day, the 1 stop better from fullframe is not really beneficial.

The only problem I have with apsc is short battery life and faster over heat. The newer one has the z100 but still compact.

I went on a cruise, but the a6300 can't handle the in door dinner. So I bought a7s2 for dinner shooting.

Sony ibis is poor. But for video, something is better than nothing. For photos, it can help in getting sharper images on slower shutter speed.... so... more capable in darker places. I think most photographers put it in 'additional stop of light'.

I remember when a6000 was good enough for professional wedding photography and video. Some places like church don't like noises. I recommend looking for a silent shutter camera vs. losing the opportunity.

Not true; the prices are the same. B&H has no tax with their Payboo card and that's the point.
Some people might not be able to get the payboo card.

Many people cannot get educational deals at all, most can apply for and get the Payboo card if they wish, but you can't escape taxes at BuyDig if you live in the states that enforce them.

Ugh, I was really hoping to find a sale on the Sony 24-70mm GM II from an authorized retailer. Reviews show a very real improvement over the GM I. Anybody think we will have any other Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales on the Sony 24-70mm GM II? With 100s of sony resellers, someone should, right?

Is the Sony 16-35mm F4 G lens SELP1635G on sale since it is not listed?
