I've used this exact grill before. So long as you empty out the coals, it takes about 25 minutes or so @ 60F to cool enough to put back in the bag. Makes it convenient for tailgates, but it's a little flimsy, don't expect to get too many cooks out of it.

If I'm at a park do I just wait an hour for the grill to cool down before putting it in that carrying bag, seems like it would just burn through it otherwise

The grill is actually very good. Not completely disposable. Can cook two very nice sizes strip steaks or 3/4 burgers.
