Open Boxes start at $1345 for Open Box Fair, $1375 for Open Box Excellent. Unless you need the Air's portability, just go for the Certified Refurb M1 Pro MBP, this will not perform as good as that for a higher price.

MacBook Pro 14" with M3 Pro at Apple Edu for 1849 is what I am weighing this against .. better screen, (arguably) better performance and similar weight

what a terrible deal.

for $1500, you could've gotten a 14' M1 Pro with 32GB of ram, and 14 core GPU instead of 10. better battery life, better screen, more USB-C ports, support for 2 external monitors...

the air is really a terrible value proposition, other than the weight (which is negated even by a bigger screen here)

fair comparison, that's 400$ more thou, also there is only negligible performance gain from M2 Pro to M3 Pro (yes, they have really gutted M3 Pro this time).

so you might want to grab a deal for M1 Pro / M2 Pro around thanksgiving instead, targeting 1400$ for brand new or 1200$ for refurb.

Would never buy that mess of a midnight color. How did that fingerprinted mess make it to market?

I agree. Not a great deal. I bought an M1 Pro 14"/16gb/512gb for this price a year ago.

If these are on sale now, maybe wait a bit if you can or bite on one of the M1 Pro deals.

Not everyone is looking for the most power you can pack into a laptop. A lot of us favor "thin and light", and the Apple Silicon Macs are even thicker than my old Core i9 model was.

šŸ™„ These laptops aren't even out yet for real-world performance comparisons...

This is exactly why I avoided the blue/black 15 pro and went for natural titanium instead. FWIW, the new 14/16" MBPs 'space black' is supposed to be a lot more resistant to fingerprints

Which is why they really hyped the anti-fingerprint process on the new black ones.

Yeah the space black looks to be an fingerprint improvement. I stay away from painted metals though. They look cheesey to me.
Painted chrome specifically.
Hated the 14 pro bumper in black.
Brushed isnt so bad.
But scratching near the usb port would be an issue.

i got mine from woot branc new which was listed on slickdeals. in the discussion thread they listed they think theyll get more, not sure when. ive literally had mine for like 10 days, these will continue to go down in price. i can only just say keep an eye out for woot deals, because i think even 1500 is a bit high as time goes on.

thin and light at the cost of literally everything else is like saying you'd rather commute to work on a unicycle than a car. i guess it technically gets you there? at least you saved a half pound or whatever

It's been like that for a long time, if you want "thin and light" it'll have a bit less power but it'll be joy to use. If you need more power you'll be carrying a big fat brick. Just pick your poison. I have both and I prefer 15" Air. The only thing I regret is buying it in midnight blue. It looks like I've been eating chicken on it.

Can someone make it so it is heavily disliked? I just realized I saw a Apple Refurb M2 Pro for 1599 and the countless M1 Pro refurbs for 1300 with better everything than this
