Getting a disposable Google Voice number for the port-in is really simple and will cost you only $3. Here's the step-by-step from the Pixel 7 Mint deal in March of this year, which also required a port-in.

1 - Pick a Google account you own that doesn't have a GV number linked to it (or create a new Google acct)
2 - Go to voice.google.com and log in to that Google acct. I prefer an Incognito window here to make sure I'm only engaging with the preferred account.
3 - Select a GV number... I used my home area code and perused the list of available numbers, settling on one that looked good.
4 - Select it, verify it by using a mobile or landline. (see note on this below)
5 - Really important.... set up a PIN!!! Settings > Voicemail > Enable Call to Listen > Enter a PIN
6 - Unlock the GV number so it can be ported: Settings > Account > GV Number > click UNLOCK
7 - Pay Google three bucks
8 - Wait for confirmation that the number is unlocked

Then at Mint:
Phone # is the GV number
Account # is also the GV number
PIN is the PIN you set up in Step 5 above.

The important note from Step 4.... the phone you use to verify here (via text message if you're using a mobile or via a phonecall if using a landline) will be DISCONNECTED from any other GV number you may be using and will be linked to the GV number you're creating here. When you finish up all of this and have successfully ported in to Mint, you'll want to go back to whatever prior GV number you have an re-link that mobile/landline back where it belongs.

EDITED TO ADD: Added this info to thread wiki.

I want to dispell the rumors now. It's locked to mints T-Mobile since they took over in April. Prior the 7 and 7 pro deals were unlocked prior to the takeover. These are 100 percent locked

right...Exactly what I would want to do.
I did this once. But you have to port out to another service temporarily. I think I ported out for a month last time before porting back in using a similar pixel deal

Is there anything to get around the port in requirement? Currently a Mint Mobile customer but just get a new sim card for the new customer deals and never port in a number.
Not if you want to keep your number but if you are willing to go with a new number you could do it..

Note: Must bring your phone number over from previous carrier to Mint Mobile. Sales tax charged on full retail price of phone ($899).
Not sure if that's correct. I am in Georgia and the check out page shows "STATE SALES TAX
$11.96". My local sales tax is 6%. If tax on full retail price of $899 would be $53.94.

The order subtotal (phone + 12 months services - 15GB) is $419.00.
Recovery Fee: $20.50
Taxes & Surcharges: $25.64
Total: $465.14

I've been using Mint for the past year and it works great for me. This deal is a lot more restrictive than some of their past deals, so it is really only a great deal if you intend to switch from a different carrier and continue to use Mint for a whole year.
Yeah I mean not really bothered by the 12 month requirement just because the SIM card will work for 12 months. It's like factory into the price, by the time the SIM card is out it will be unlocked. I understand some people might have very specific use cases, I want to flip them on the resale market.... So if I were to get this deal I would just use mint for a year and then make a decision from that

Yeah that's a good question. When I was checking out me (I didn't complete the process because I'm a little confused) they didn't ask for a number to port in or anything. They didn't specify which carriers I can pour it in and they were already asking for my financial information

I would like to get some clarity on this. If you don't have a number and they require one .... Find out if they accept any cheap prepaid offers and you could theoretically buy like a $15 boost Mobile card and port that number..

But it doesn't specify which carriers you can port in so I'm a little confused

Been trying to chat with Mint for the last hour and it looks like their chat experience has gone significantly downhill compared to last year. The chat component is glitchy and keeps disappearing, the "Fox Bot" is annoying AF and won't let me talk to an agent without significant delays, the chat agents keep changing mid-chat, the agents respond with >5min delay per message, and finally the chat just disappears after a while of idle time (waiting for agent).

Just wanted to know if I could, as an existing Mint customer, use this phone myself and give the bundled SIM to a family member (who will port).

Meh. I'll just wait for fellow SDers to comment back.. much more reliable.

Yes you can use it. You can lock phones to carriers but you can't lock phones to specific SIMs. Choose the physical SIM option.

After the two previous deals where the phone was unlocked, it seems Mint has wised up after Ryan Reynolds sold the company to Tmobile. Still a damn good price on a top flight phone though.

I did this a year or so ago on the 6a deal, gave the phone to my mom and the sim to my sister. I know some others who used the phone on Pixel 7 deal and sold the sim on ebay.

by the way, it's usually not a good idea to contact the company and tell them about potential loopholes that they could try to close.

I was too exciting when placing the order coz I have been looking for a new phone with a new line for my teenage son. I did not thoroughly read the terms about the deal and was thinking it is for new customers with a new number. It was all my fault.

After learning that porting is required, I contacted Mint to cancel the order. I did it twice to make sure the order will be cancelled. Yet, I still received an email saying the order has shipped. Mint said just ignore the shipping email since a cancellation request had been sent to the warehouse earlier and they ensure the order will not ship. I really doubt it. I looked into the order again and there is nowhere mentioning about bringing a phone number is a must. I hope I can activate the phone with a new phone number. Fingers crossed....
