Getting a disposable Google Voice number for the port-in is really simple and will cost you only $3. Here's the step-by-step from the Pixel 7 Mint deal in March of this year, which also required a port-in.

1 - Pick a Google account you own that doesn't have a GV number linked to it (or create a new Google acct)
2 - Go to voice.google.com and log in to that Google acct. I prefer an Incognito window here to make sure I'm only engaging with the preferred account.
3 - Select a GV number... I used my home area code and perused the list of available numbers, settling on one that looked good.
4 - Select it, verify it by using a mobile or landline. (see note on this below)
5 - Really important.... set up a PIN!!! Settings > Voicemail > Enable Call to Listen > Enter a PIN
6 - Unlock the GV number so it can be ported: Settings > Account > GV Number > click UNLOCK
7 - Pay Google three bucks
8 - Wait for confirmation that the number is unlocked

Then at Mint:
Phone # is the GV number
Account # is also the GV number
PIN is the PIN you set up in Step 5 above.

The important note from Step 4.... the phone you use to verify here (via text message if you're using a mobile or via a phonecall if using a landline) will be DISCONNECTED from any other GV number you may be using and will be linked to the GV number you're creating here. When you finish up all of this and have successfully ported in to Mint, you'll want to go back to whatever prior GV number you have an re-link that mobile/landline back where it belongs.

I want to dispell the rumors now. It's locked to mints T-Mobile since they took over in April. Prior the 7 and 7 pro deals were unlocked prior to the takeover. These are 100 percent locked

Unlocking is hell from what I experienced with a iPhone XR that I bought through them. I had mint for over a year and assumed that my phone was auto unlocked by them, but nope. I was trying to use my phone with visible and spent 2 months on the phone and through email trying to get my phone unlocked. Furthermore, I will never buy from Mint again.
What ultimately got them to unlock the phone? Would they have been quicker to unlock if you had request the unlock while you were still with Mint?

Do you guys think because of this deal, the deal that was around Last March where people were just taking the phone and selling the Mint sim cards on ebay separately won't be around this year cause this time its locked to the phone?
Yes, I just use the unlocked Pixel 7 phone and let my uncle use the SIM service. Still have about 4 months of service left.

Wish I had known this last time. Got the pixel 7 and didn't have a number to port in. So had to just let it go waste

right, but does this current deal likely mean that a similar deal to that one, where the SIM card could be sold separately on ebay will likely not happen again?

I was still with mint, I wanted to test out visible. I literally went through over 10 CS reps, a couple "mint network engineers". Likewise, I was so frustrated after the first month and a half where it was mint blaming T-Mobile and affirm. T-Mobile blaming Mint and affirm saying they have no say nor the tools in anything related to unlocking, and it was dependent on the carrier to do that. Well after I reached my breaking point I would attack them on the online chat 2 or 3 times a day, get multiple requests for an engineer to contact me, call twice a day and yell. Eventually a higher up manager took notice when I called and saw all the tickets I had opened and said he would personally follow up every day until it was resolved. It took about a week and half for it to finally get unlocked by Mint after that. He did contact me daily as well, by text, and a call.

I also looked for the emails of the executives at Mint online, found a few, all went unanswered.

Is this returnable? How would it play to buy and hold without activating for BF deals just in case a better promo comes up?

I have never seen so many fence sitters (which includes myself) on a popular phone thread. A locked phone, the overheating G2, and Mint's rapidly deteriorating CS all have me think thrice about buying this phone.

I bought the P7 on the Mint deal and didn't like the phone. Major gripe was that when it overheats, Maps will switch to dark mode and that means you can barely see anything during daytime.

Alright guys. I took the plunge and bought the damn phone with the free 1 year service. My kids dont use a lot of data since they're mostly on a wifi network. I think getting a 900$ phone for 380$ with a 1 year service is somewhat worth of the gamble and challenge. Now I do not know if they will cancel my order. It looks like only a handful of people got a cancellation email. My plan is is to use this service for 13 months and try to unlock it at the 14th months. I dont think there will be better deal like this in BF. I might be wrong, but it's worth a shot. Wish me luck !!!

There is a 7 day return policy on sim and device (lessthan 25 min usage of phone) minus shipping and handling.

Since Mintmobile site specifically says it is locked only for this phone, I highly doubt it will come unlocked.
A prepaid service with 12 mo locked phone, may not be bad for a trade in and sell the service but not sure if its worth hustle if i want to use them for this discount.

Hopefully a S23 deal pop up.

So a few years ago I tried to do this strategy trying to port it to I think Cricket at the time, and ended up not being able port it out because Cricket insisted that the number i had was a landline. What I don't recall for sure is if I followed step #6, maybe I didn't? Anyway, just know that the fee you pay to google is non-refundable no matter what.

Well said, I'm on the fence as well Confused
I bought the Pixel 6A last year, love it...except the cell reception is BAD Frown and in contacting Google their support is absolutely useless, I've tried all the trouble shooting and they just repeat the same thing over and over and over... Mad

The charging speed is really slow in 2023 standard.
