I have never seen so many fence sitters (which includes myself) on a popular phone thread. A locked phone, the overheating G2, and Mint's rapidly deteriorating CS all have me think thrice about buying this phone.

I bought the P7 on the Mint deal and didn't like the phone. Major gripe was that when it overheats, Maps will switch to dark mode and that means you can barely see anything during daytime.
I don't understand the love for dark mode. It's hard to see. I sometimes think my eyes must work differently than everyone elses. When I designed websites over 20 years ago it wasn't a good idea to make dark websites for legibility reasons... now, it seems like that notion has changed.

Dark mode works pretty well when it's actually dark outside Smilie. But in OP's case, phone goes into dark mode to lower battery consumption. Also happens when you are very low in battery level.

So I got the phone, I just turned it on and inserted a sim from India, it just connected and works. Able to get calls and messages.. I did not connect to WiFi or activate Mint Mobile Sim yet.. do they lock it when we activate? Or it works with Sim outside US? In that case I can eSim Mint n Physical Sim another one?

Wow, your results give me hope, but not enough to not return my p7p.
When I used an AT&t sim it says "sim not supported, ask mint mobile if device can be unlocked"

If I could be sure that it would work with any non-us sim I would keep the phone cause that is all I want, to use mint in the us and foreign sims while traveling.

Interesting.

Anyone who's a current Mint customer try to just put their "old" sim when they get the phone and see what happens? I have 6mos left on my current Mint contract and don't want to lose my old number.

What does the "about phone" page say about the lock status?

Before buying the phone I chatted with Mint CSR and was told if nothing is owed on the phone i could have phone unlocked in 24-48 hours.
I received it today. And tried to have it unlocked by 3 different csr and they allcouldn't do it.
They say they will send escalate my case but then they just close/drop my chat after 30 mins. I have been wasting time for more than 1 hour.
Did you have to show them the chat transcript with being able to unlock after a few days so they won't read you the "official unlock policy" and therefore can't unlocked?

Can you share more details wrt "Google client" chat so we don't lose chat sessions n have to redo? Thx

I bought lyca mobile to port the phone number to Mint but I cant get the PIN and also the account number. I called to Lyca and they said that I have to use during some days to request the port. Is there any other way to know the PIN and account info? Thanks
