The typing on these is pretty nice, but the insert - pgdn island being offset by one row (so that insert is where delete should be and pgup is where pgdn should be) is pretty annoying, and since I'm constantly switching between outputs, it's a little more fiddly having to change the target and machine type via the knob and menus. I'd get (one or two of) the 8BitDo keyboards (I'm typing on the Fami version now) and call it a day... love the typing feel, love the massive clickiness, and of course the aesthetics. Only things I knock it for are the lack of media keys and MacOS software, but the dedicated volume knob is nice and at least partially offsets that.

Damn, I want both of the 8BitDo retro keyboards and now I want this too, and I have enough keyboards already. What do I do? I guess I could adopt some foster children and pretend I'm getting them presents...

ngl outemu switches are kinda ass. they are the brand you find on 20 dollar budget mech keyboards on amazon as well. i've used them personally and just think they kinda suck. otherwise cool keeb.
What kind of Brown switches would you recommend then? I've used two different "Cheap" keyboards one with full size otemu brown and one with low profile and they're damn near the best keyboards I've typed on. I got tired of issues with the Cherry keys in Corsair's so I went for a cheap one till I could save up for a "nice" mechanical, and I ended up just staying with it. Tecware Phantom, paid $50 a while ago and I really like it tbh. I got a TKL low profile one to use as a backup, and when I finally got around to trying it out I LOVED the low profile keys on it, but the F-key row would bug out and then stop working so YMMV with 'cheap' keyboards, but I don't think Otemu are "ass". At least not from my experience. I like them better than Cherry.

No. These sell on various, Chinese sites for around $60 There are multiple variations on the same thing. Some will have an astronaut, ninja, wolf, or owl in the top right corner.

This OP is a shill poster for keyboards.

Honestly just try to do some research on mechanical keyboard Facebook groups and subreddits and see what people like out of the 3 main switch types. Most enthusiasts aren't using Cherry and it isn't because of cost. I personally like gateron switches for linear and kailh box whites for clicky but I haven't really experimented with more brown switches outside of the outemu's before on budget keyboards. They are fine but it's just not what I want at my desk every day. I don't mean to insult people who like them I just think for an 80 dollar keyboard you can do better if you were to order straight from China off of Ali. Maybe get into a keyboard discord or two and see what people like there. Since a lot of keyboards (including this one) are hot swappable you can always just try something new later.

Right on, thanks for replying. I've found I really like browns for the tactile feel, and when I used the low profile one I REALLY liked it. For my preferences it's a good mix of switch that also lets me know when I've actually "hit" it without being clicky and loud. I'm one that cannot STAND blues in any form.

I hear you. That confirmation that you're pressing the key is a big reason I liked clicky switches. Outside of annoying other people in the house, I love them for that. I used to be against the idea of linears until I tried some really basic but well-regarded gateron yellows. Those changed my mind on everything and made me not care for tactile switches after that. I started to feel the sentiment I had heard echoed before that browns (bad ones at least) could feel like "scratchy reds". But for my next set of switches (or entirely new keeb) I want to try some high end browns. Different manufacturers can surprise you. The kailh box whites were SO satisfying to click that I think if I got another clicky keyboard I'd buy box white v2's.

I'm looking around. The kb I have now has full size switches, but when I put some of the extra lp ones that came with the lp kb in it to try they worked fine, but I know not all lp switches will reach the mobo correctly. Not many options for full size lp browns keyboard, I'd prefer a removable cable too, and I hate it bc it's starting to look like I'm going to have to.... Build my own..

Yeah unfortunately low profile is still kind of a niche within a niche hobby. You're probably correct in that you'd likely have to build your own to get your ideal low-profile switch setup. Look at AliExpress and see what they have. Maybe you can find a good base for cheap.

Anyone know how they compare to Cherry MX Clear switches?

Clear and brown are my favorite

I think it depends what outemu switch you get. Their silent switches are actually pretty decent. I'm currently using their Silent Tactile Yellow Jades and they are pretty darn good. I bought them to see if I'd like the switch over to tactile before buying the boba u4 silent but have now decided that this is great especially for the price. Durability will be the question but i'm also not one that pounds on my keyboard like crazy.

Yeah maybe their silent switches are alright. I just know I've blown through sets of their blues and browns on cheaper keyboards and they sucked for me. Woulda been nice if the keyboard in the deal had a silent version available.

EDIT: oh I think these are silent whites. my bad. didn't know that was their silent color. hopefully it works out for people trying it then

I'm having a hard time deciding between the SNES and Fami versions. The SNES hits me with more nostalgia, because I'm American, but I like the Fami look from a purely aesthetic standpoint.
Perhaps you could program the A & B buttons to be play and pause. What do you have them set as now?
Not knocking you for typing that wrong, but you had me excited that they released another variant with SNES colors, and also concerned for my wallet since I'd probably buy a SNES variant if released, I was mulling it in my head until I went and looked Smilie

Are you able to rebind the keys? I want to use the keys above the arrows as my numpad
