Economy for United Airlines LAX > HND/NRT currently flies the 787. The -8/-9 configurations all have the same sized economy seats.

Economy Plus is available for purchase as an add-on, you'd get either an exit row/bulkhead seat with more legroom, or something in the front of economy with more legroom/recline.

This is infinitely better than Southwest. Premium Economy (Premium Plus) is usually 2x the cost of regular economy, but with this deal it is closer to 3.5-4x the cost. Whether you want to splurge for the upgraded service is up to you, I just flew Premium Plus LAX/HND a week ago and for some it is worth it, in my case it was a play to try to get a Polaris upgrade via miles.

ultimately the comfort question is up to you, there's a lot of reviews comparing UAL vs AA vs DAL vs ANA vs JAL vs SIA economy class seats.

Don't worry, lots of better stuff to do there than listen to the radio

This is very tempting, but I keep getting warned by friends who have gone to spring for Economy Premium, even with the price jump.

Any experience / advice from frequent travelers?

I keep being told by friends to spring for either Economy Premium (or Plus or whatever) or above. They keep saying that seats are uncomfortable for the 10hr flight in economy.

I've never flown that far, usually fly economy when I fly across the US (mostly Southwest), and so I'm looking for opinions about jumping on this vs springing for the more expensive flight.

It will be my first time to Japan, and I'm excited. I don't want it to be ruined by a bad back when I get there! Heh.

GREAT price as I was just in Japan two weeks ago. I paid $551 for my tix through American Airlines. I would like to go for a third time (I went Oct 2022 and Oct 2023) as that price is quite tempting.

I flew economy ATL-HND on Delta in February without any issues and I'm 6'5". Pick a good seat using the website Aerolopa as a tool.

I have flown 14+ hours in United regular economy multiple times from east coast to asia before. It's fine. It's all about sleeping/watching movies to pass the time and making sure you get up to walk around cabin every few hours to loosen your body parts. I am 6 ft tall and have no issue fitting into economy seats.

All airplane seats are uncomfortable when you fly 10 hours.

United sucks but their LA flight to Japan was great. This is a great flight and a great deal.

Yes this would make a good ski/snowboard trip… esp with the 2 baggage allowance (not Basic Economy)

FINALLY someone understands the value of this.

yes, Japan in Feb is cold. lots of places to see that has snow, plus an onsen experience in a snowy destination is a bucket list trip.

hell, even Meiji Shrine covered in snow is a glorious sight.
