As for this deal, you're essentially getting 50% off for renting two days. 50% off seemed like a good enough deal to me to consider getting one on my next rental.
If your planning a long road trip with more than 500 miles a day, then I prefer a gas car.

But this email was oddly worded, so I would double check carefully before renting.

Between the first and second time (August and October), Hertz enabled the ability to use the Tesla app, so being able to use your phone as a key and to monitor the car was so so so much nicer.
Charging? So easy. The car tells you where to go, you show up, and you plug in. That's it. No apps, no credit cards. The chargers are at a mix of gas stations, hotels, and grocery stores, so there's no consistency in that regard, but there's at least a place to use the bathroom.
I wouldn't recommend an EV rental for all routes, but with a Tesla, pretty much all interstates and major highways are in play. My route was along I-10 in Texas and across Texas into New Mexico and Colorado. About 3500 miles total, and the only real problem I had was a bit of range anxiety with the Model 3 SR over a long-ish stretch of highway on a really hot day.
As with everything these days, EV vs. ICE has become absurdly politicized. Don't listen to the noise. Rent a Tesla for a few days and try it out. You might find you'll like it. I would start out with the Teslas since they're generally easier to charge. If you're brave, try the Polestar 2 or the Chevy Bolt. They're nice cars, but they have some charging limitations (the Bolt's relatively slow charging, and the non-Tesla charging network).
As for leisure rentals, people who own EVs prefer to rent EVs (you have no idea how annoying driving a gas car is until you've lived without it for a while). As the EV ownership grows, Hertz's decision will make more and more sense. They may have gone too hard, too fast, but overall it's the right direction.
Hertz's decision did not make sense, if it did, they wouldn't have to offer discounts on the car that cost them the most and they should be able to charge the most. I don't know if you have ever run a business, but in the business world you don't make money by charging the least for the thing that cost you the most.

Some people wear really nice clothes..
Some people drive electric cars..
Do whatever makes you happy... but none of these are going to save the planet.
I stayed in an AirBnB where the nearest charger was ~30 minutes away. That sucked because I had to ditch the family to get the car charged.
On the way back to the airport, a Supercharger was on the way. That was convenient. I kinda consider myself fortunate in that the car was exactly 80% when I arrived at the airport. Anything nearby were those slow chargers really intended for hotel guests.
For sure you should try to understand what charging options are available in the area before signing up for an EV. Also...photograph everything in your car when you get it. Mine didn't have an adapter for the slow networks and they wanted to charge me for it until I showed a video of the car not having one at pickup.
One of my friend in particular has had several Teslas. She knows the game and loves planning all that charging hassle for some reason. It would be no big deal for her to manage all the EV quirks.
I'd only consider a rental EV in limited circumstances after my 1 experience. Basically I'd have to be in a city with charging options near my overnight location and/or I just need a cheap rental and there's a deal like this available. I would not get an EV for roadtrips because I like to explore and you just can't depend on a charger being close when you need it.
