I will never understand the need to be upset about the choices that other people make. It's like people getting mad that someone uses iPhone (or Android). It does not affect your life, just let it go.
If neither of you are bothered, I suggest simply thinking "Ah, this deal is not for me, as I don't want to rent an EV" and then moving on. I would never, for instance, click on a LuLuLemon deal and say "I would never wear that." It's fine that it's not for me, and I hope other people enjoy the deal.

As for this deal, you're essentially getting 50% off for renting two days. 50% off seemed like a good enough deal to me to consider getting one on my next rental.
It can be more convenient if the place you're staying at has a place to charge. No need to stop by a gas station and waste 5-10 minutes. A typical 120v outlet is usually good enough. EVs are great if you're staying within a region.

If your planning a long road trip with more than 500 miles a day, then I prefer a gas car.

LOL, I think it is the other way around and everyone knows it. These threads are full of "investors" trying to convince everyone they are stupid if they don't buy a Tesla.

The fleet data is out from Hertz. They are pulling back on teslas because of the high maintenance cost and rapid depreciation.

No need for disinformation, the pain is real.
I don't care if someone buys a Tesla or not, I couldn't care less what ANYONE buys. What I am sick of are people convinced that they know better than anyone else, especially those that own the cars in the first place.

Nor do I care what Hertz is doing, I rented from them because we have a single car and if I have to rent again I'll rent an EV. Does this mean others should do it? No, I dont care what they do.

Edit: I have to ask, what high maintenance costs are they claiming? Besides tires .. there isn't much you're doing maintenance on.

You don't have to care what Hertz is doing to look at the actual fleet data from 30,000 vehicles as opposed to the anecdotal experience of an investor who has ulterior motives on a site like SLICK DEALS promoting a car at MSRP. That is probably some of the best fleet data you will get

As far as maintenance they are a year old, so not much maintenance on any car so probably tires, but also maintenance of the fleet entails repairs and replacement parts, which are significantly higher for Tesla. See maintenance doesn't just mean oil change. If you break a windshield, you have to replace it. Maintenance of the fleet

Again, my "I dont care" what Hertz or anyone does is a personal preference. I am not an investor (I don't own a single share of stock in any company), nor do I steer anyone towards or away from a Tesla or any other vehicle because people should decide for themselves (you are free to check my post history if you feel im some sort of shill). Ego Musk does enough of a good job keeping people from buying in general, and since many consider it a political statement I stay out of any of that.

Ill bicker about the cost of a windshield because those are about the same cost as any other vehicle on the road, but the top glass is another thing that will indeed cost more to replace than a standard car. However the uptick of EVs from Ford, GM, etc should lower overall cost of operation. Those other manufacturers getting to use the Tesla charging infrastructure will be of benefit until infrastructure comes up to par as well.

It doesn't sound like you've ever owned a car.

I've seen mixed information on Reddit. Some cars have the chargers and some don't.

Haven't rented a Tesla myself, but I'm going in assuming that I'll have to use a Supercharger. That's assuming they even have a Tesla available and you don't get bumped to a different vehicle.
I've rented many EVs here in Los Angeles this past year from Hertz and haven't had any issues. Surprisingly I will admit, the Tesla was not my favorite of the 3 cars I've gotten. The Kia EV6 was my favorite. The Polestar 2 (made by Volvo) was my number one choice til I got the Kia... But it was a close call. I liked the Tesla a lot tho and wouldn't refuse one next time I rent.

Also it is true some cars have adapters others don't you'll have to ask for a car that specifically has one if you want to go that route. Also, with gas prices here in Cali, you'd be crazy not to get a EV instead of a gas car.

A broken windshield was just an example of something that could be damaged and need to be replaced under maintenance.

See that is the beauty of fleet data, you can bicker all you want but Hertz is not emotionally attached to their cars like you are and they simply see it from a business perspective, and it is clearly costing them far more than ICE cars. Like 30% more.

Over 30,000 vehicles vs. your 1. OK.

One good reason to rent an EV is to experience them in case you are planning to buy.

Some of the advantages so far I experienced with EVs in general not all are applicable to renting. I owned one for close to 5 years.

Never visited a gas station unless I needed air. No oil changes, no brake changes. No engine air filters

Only maintenance I did was a new set of tires and alignment after 40k miles. Tires do wear quicker as EVs are heavy with instant torque. So don't mind that.

Everyday morning I can go out with a full charge. Cross country drive not a problem with Teslas. Not sure about others.

It will only make sense if you are live in Cali

I received a "Tesla rebill" fee which is supposed to be for using a supercharger though I only charged at home. I dropped it off with a greater charge than when I picked it up. Currently attempting to dispute. FYI to watch your bill

Does the Model3 they rent have autopilot?
Apparently this varies, but the two cars that I did rent from HSV did have it. Unfortunately, it also had a speed limiter at 90mph so it was useless since I wanted to drive it the way I drive mine at home.
