Meh selection
I miss the old days where you could buy 3 games that just released or are about to release for $120 total. $40 each for 3 AAA titles.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank sahkuh

Finally it had three titles I actually wanted for once.

Picked up Metal Gear Master Collection Vol1, Disgaea 7 (i didn't even know it came out), and REMAKE4.
Came out to about 40 dollars per game after taxes, so not too bad!

Uh no they aren't. Target routinely had this deal on new releases.

It was a thing—in the '80s and '90s. The inflation happened, as it always does. I remember DuckTales on NES retailing for $40 in 1989. That's nearly $100 in 2023 dollars. So even as video game development costs have skyrocketed, prices—which seem to be around $60–$70 for AAA titles—haven't nearly kept pace. In other words, I think we're doing alright.

The cheapest I can remember brand new games being was $50 and that had to be at least 10 years ago? Actually $45 is starting to come into memory as being the price point in the late 90's for maybe PS1 games since they were cheaper to make than N64 cartridges. I think after Xbox One / PS4 came out, they started charging $60 for new games. But…to be fair, games are way more complex and detailed nowadays.

It was a thing as recently as a year or two ago. Target would let you get pretty much any 3 games, and even some preorders. I do agree, though, that console gaming is the cheapest it's ever been. Anyone who doesn't believe that should look up old Toys R Us catalogs from the 1990s. SNES/N64 era games were regularly $70-80+ and even disc based Playstation games were $50-60 or more.

Kmart, about 10ish years ago, had religiously great deals on newly released games(Even AAA ones), talking about around $40. There was a Kmart rep on cheapassgamer who would inform members of the upcoming deals, ask members what they would like to see on sale, what type of deals, etc. Ah, the good old days...

Target was the last time for Me. Dec 2020 Vahalla and 2 copies of Immortals.

I paid $75 for the first Zelda in the late 80s. Also $75 for MKII on SNES in the early 90s. Phantasy Star II on Genesis was $90 back then. We're doing pretty good with pricing overall, but I do miss a real deal.
