You don't want USB-C charging for a machine using 100W+. Those ports break all the time at 60-120W (I've learned this the hardway through Dell XPS 15s and Dell XPS 17s at 120W with RTX 2060s and RTX 3060s). This machine will eat at least 150W peak, TDP 35 for the Ryzen + 115 peak for the 4050 6GB. So 150W before mobo and peripherals which is probably another 20W. I don't see 170W through USB-C for quite a while. In practice, the power flows through the motherboard, which for the past 10 years have been designed for 100 TDP (even in most desktops.) The circuitry needs major upgrade if USB-C is going to be used for power delivery on laptops with discrete video.

Good deal. If it had a 4060, this would've been a slam dunk! nod

Edit: My resolve is wavering, must resist, lol

Does anything like this come with USB-C charging? So hard to find something with comparable specs that uses it.

Would this be good for a college music major - running music production software, etc?
Also, any idea on battery life? Reviews sound like it's good in power save modes.
TIA

If the software is optimized to use a discrete video processor (which most are). This is a decent option (the Ryzen is also no joke), but if you're running it daily at max TDP for the RTX 4050, thats going to put wear on the machine very quickly (fans at max speed, etc.) The venting on the machine looks really good, but I don't know what its like to clear dust on these. I would investigate that before diving in.

1080P for gaming is all this video card can do and if you did find a machine that ran at 1440P at 15in it would scale 125%/150% in windows 10/11 which essenti9ally negates the 1440p upgrade. Accordingly, I dont see the point in "hold[ing] the line" if you're in the 15in market. 1080p is fine. Even at 17in, 1440p, I believe windows will scale for comfortable viewing at 125% but would need someone to confirm!

At $750, this is a thumbs down. This should not be a slickdeal. I find the process of making something a slickdeal to be rather trivial these days.

The processor, ram and hd which are all at max range in terms of performance/capacity don't match the 4050. Its not worth it IMO to buy anything with these components below a 4060 or 3070 ti.

The components are nowhere close to "max range in terms of performance/capacity" lol

Anyone have an opinion on how well this would handle autocad? Specifically version 2024. Any confirmation of USB-C charging?

No thunderbolt port. You need to see if the ASIO that the student uses requires USB or thunderbolt. The computer has the power to do the work.

I wouldn't want more resolution for this! All it'll do is take from my precious fps.
