When you realize you don't need no video games to live your life, the choice to buy is obvious; but I don't blame anyone for pulling the trigger as I was once an addict myself. One day, you'll be ready to pay your late child support notices.
I read this, and through all my years of gaming, I developed your plot/origin story.

You were a good Call of Duty player. Feared and respected. You used to call in nukes after netting 25 killstreaks. People used to call you names, to make them feel better about their inadequacy. They'd say things like: "Get a job, loser!" or "You must be a virgin!". At first it didn't bother you because you knew you were King. But over time it eroded your confidence. You'd see your friends posting pictures on social media. They looked like they had the perfect life. Traveling around the world. Hanging out with friends. Out at bars with smokin' hot babes. Little did you know they were taking out massive loans with unfavorable interest rates and being a debt slave. When they traveled around the world, they had to wait hours in airports. They had to listen to screaming babies for 5+ hours at a time. The hot chicks at the bar were just photobombing their photo. They didn't even talk to them.

You wanted what you perceived to be the perfect life: "Instead of humbling these noobs in COD, I'm going to obtain this perfect life!" you said. The first girl that smiled at you, you fell in love with. She asked strange questions when you first met like: "If you were to die, who would get your life insurance plan", "Can I borrow your credit card? What's the pin that you use?", "Lets play a game: who can say their social security number the fastest". You're a hardened gamer. You don't like losing. You destroyed her in the Social security card game.

Later on you'd go on Call of Duty. You were right back in the groove of things. You were ending games with nukes. The same crybabies used the same lines as before: "You're a virgin". But except you weren't anymore. The social security girl you just met is actually going to have your kid soon. You've been taking out massive debt to live a life standard you can't afford. But it's amazing! You quickly typed out: "Actually, I'm not a virgin anymore! I'm having my first kid soon!". You felt so good typing that out. You've achieved the perfect life, like the people you've been handing out losses to in COD. Surely their lives are perfect, right?

No one typed back. There was just silence. Then suddenly one guy who went 1 kill/15 deaths in the match turned on his mic. His gamer tag was YeetSkeet42069. He suddenly talks. He must have been 55 years old. With a disappointed voice he said: "We say those lines to bait better players into losing like us. But to lose in real life. Are you seriously taking out massive loans and impregnating women? Do you know how hard it is to raise a kid? Do you know how risky it is to impregnate someone you just met? Child support can last for 18 years! We simply didn't want you playing COD anymore and making us rage. You didn't take our bait, did you!?".

You couldn't believe it. You've been checkmated. All these years you've been owning noobs. They got you down the same losing path they went on. Now you won't have any time to game. You might be working two jobs, and taking the night-shift baby-diaper-changing duties. They pulled off the 25 killstreak nuke on you. You might not ever have time to play COD again. You instantly had so much regret. "If I could just go back in time and do things over again. I'd have time to be a gamer again".

That's tonight's bedtime story. Could have been written by A.I. would you know?

That's almost ROG Ally territory for the OLED
Not really. The OLED will have better colors but the VRR and Z1 make the Ally better in terms of performance.

If you just want to play older games and indie games in a console like environment then the Deck is the way to go.

The OLED has me torn. The screen and battery were garbage which is why I sold my switch.
I still feel like I would use it docked most of the time. I thought it was pretty uncomfortable. The battery improvement is huge though.

I feel like if you are going to run it docked, it's a waste of money. If you'll use this on the go, these improvements are huge IMO

Has DeckHD shipped yet? Maybe OLED will be their second product.

I picked up a open box excellent lenovo go 1tb from bb recently for $675 otd. The new oled steam deck is tempting though.

Oh man, the old 512gb refurb is in stock. Okay, time for some slippery slope, self justification math.

$360 for the old 512 unit is pretty amazing. I figure the screen is worth the $150 or so. Putting me at $510. The 512 oled is $549 new, so totally justifiable pricing. Carrying case is nice and probably ACTUALLY cost a bit to produce, but I wouldn't value it at like more than $30. There's little point getting the 1tb and not getting the limited edition. So... is the see through case worth 100 bucks? I mean, yes, but is it worth it to ME? sigh. Decisions decisions.

$360 512 lcd refurb
$550 512 oled, glossy screen
$680 limited edition. which is basically 2 512 lcd refurbs.

What would you get, assuming you want one and don't already have one.

Oled all the way. Just the screen upgrade alone is worth it. Unless they somehow release an oled screen upgrade

I can add the 512gb refurb to cart, but it won't actually let me check out. RIP.

I want the Limited Edition, but with words like "highly limited", it's going to be a botfest and most of us will lose.

Ooh, I didn't know about the new OLED version until this post and I was wondering why these got so cheap all of a sudden. I really didn't think they were going to update it for at least another year, but they must have been feeling some pressure from the ROG Ally and the Legion Go. I've had my original Steam Deck for about a year and am pretty happy with it, but the OLED version takes care of every shortcoming I care about. I might have to see how much I could get for mine and decide whether it's worth the cost of upgrading. Super tempting though.

Meh - after watching reviews (OLED having 1 hour more battery life when playing AAA games, bigger screen, brighter screen, runs cooler, etc) - I feel that the $100 extra to go to the new OLED one is totally worth it.

I'd be more excited about the battery life improvements than the OLED screen. Don't get me wrong, OLED is awesome particularly when seen in direct comparison to LCD. However, when I'm not looking at devices side by side, it's not something I think about when playing.

20-40% more battery life in practice is significant for this kind of device and it might be the difference from needing to carry a power bank or not in a lot of cases.
If the Steam Deck had a good LCD sure, but you're looking at an LCD that only covers 67% of the sRGB color gamut. It's not a good looking display and Valve themselves admitted it was one of their compromises made to help them hit such a low price point.

What are the odds that the original models will see another price drop? I would only be playing older games, as I used to have a problem with buying WAY too many games when they were on sale on Steam. I don't really think the improvements with the newer models would be substantial for older games, but correct me if I'm wrong.
