Escort's latest MAX 360 MKII radar detector is currently on sale at most retailers for $50 off, but buying direct from Escort's web site, brings it down to $449.95 w/"VIP50" discount code (another $50 off) and free shipping. About as cheap as it gets for an excellent radar detector!
I live in Kansas and my valentine 1 radar works fine. I get more KA band alerts than I do laser alerts. I drive a lot and it's a must have when you hit those speed trap cities like others have mentioned. I run Waze too and those warning spots aren't always there.
It's not gonna protect you against laser and you're the only car on the road. It will detect it but it will be too late lol
Not every tool is for every situation. For laser the cop needs to be almost straight in front with a direct line of sight on you. That means you have a direct line of sight on the cop. He can't behind an overpass foundation, for example to use laser.
Nope, it's how I maintain being a safe driver by keeping my eyes on the road and the radar going off reminding me to check my speed and slow down if needed. See? It's all about perspective 😁
My escort ix is sitting in a drawer, became useless from all the false alerts from BSM vehicles around me.
I don't have that model, but I'm guessing you can disable the X and K bands. Once I did that, all of the alerts from other cars stopped. The patrol cars are all using Ka and as other people said, motorcycle cops mostly use lidar.
Long range Ka + Waze + watching for stationary cops up ahead has worked great for me. I can't count the number of times I slowed down and someone else got a ticket.
IMO I have found that Waze is the most useful in detecting speed traps. It's free. It's not always 100% accurate and there are false positives as it relies on feedback from the users, but for me, it beats spending hundreds of bucks for something that also isn't 100% accurate.
Waze is Passive. (relies on someone's report)
Radar detector is Active. (Relies on intercepting certain frequencies).
Using both with common sense will avoid pullovers.

Newer models have good filtering that stops 99% of the bsm false alerts. You can adjust it based on band and freq if you need to. Default has been good for me. I don't yell "effen Honda" anymore
Feedback online seems to indicate this is inferior even to Uniden's last gen R7, let alone the R8. Should have picked up another R7 when Best Buy was clearing them out for $350, you can't find used R7s for that price now.
I've run this MKii and the R8 side by side for last 11 months. Pretty much spot on with each other in terms of performance and range.
The biggest plus for the R8 is the directional Indictator is in the same place on lcd and not a little arrow on the outside of the screen that I have to "look around" to figure out the direction. Night time not so bad but daylight it is not as easy/quick to determine the direction. Wish option available to have direction on screen as well as having "dark mode" but keep directional arrows lit up.
Also fwiw the Escort M1 or M2 cameras will work with either RD and mount just fine to the Uniden bracket.
Keep hospital scrubs in the passenger seat, and say I am on call and running late. Never got a ticket in my life. I do try to avoid going over 79mph near off/on-ramps though.
The folks saying that this won't protect you because cops only run POP now clearly aren't driving with a detector. The vast majority of radar in my area is KA band. Quit regurgitating BS, it's frustrating.
Yes, some of us don't drive a Prius. Saved me this week while driving my ZO6 from an officer shooting radar around a curve, my V1 detector was going on and off before I got to the curve (no warning on Waze yet), so I slowed down to the ridiculous 30mph speed limit (the road used to be 45mph less than a year ago, they lowered it as the city needs more revenue). Well worth the money and I highly recommend a detector with Waze and/or an ALP.

You are a politician?
Nope, just a safe driver who includes accessories such as a radar detector to further enhance my level of safe driving 😁
Not true mine saved me hundreds.

running both is the way to go. The radar detector pays for itself, handsomely.

Isn't ALP a laser jammer aka illegal? Sorry I only know about radar detectors. Thanks
