Yup that's right. If you only play docked than go with a pro controller. If you play on the go this thing is sooooo much better than the joycons.

It seems like these cannot be used detached due to no internal battery?

I have the original split pad pro, and bought the gengar version of these split pad compact. The Compact is a nice middle ground between the joycons having terrible sticks and the split pad pro being very comfy but too wide. These are perfect. For $30 to get the red ones I think is very slick. Be warned that they do not fit in the usual switch cases due to being too wide.

Thanks! It's kind of wild how much better third party controllers have gotten now. My joycons continuously get drift. Hope these are better. I grabbed the $30 red ones

I like mine, they feel more like an original Xbox controller to me lol. I did end up fixing my joycons though, was really easy and only took about 10 minutes

I bought the gray ones awhile back and they are awesome for portable use, fits nice and snug with no play or movement. Makes the switch feel like one piece and very comfortable during gaming vs the flimsy joycons.

I concur, the pros are too big for any cases. Have you found any cases that fit this split pads?

Damn I JUST realized mine won't fit probably. I have a tomtoc case that is marginally soft so I'm hoping maybe it will still fit

I have had a pair of these since last Christmas, and I adore them. There's no rumble, amiibo, gyro, and can't be used wireless, but I have plenty of full controllers I use for that. For making the switch playable for my large hands, this is fantastic.

You must not have large hands then. I have the original hori control the bigger one and i really like that one because its comfortable. Decided to get these on amazon and these are just as uncomfortable as the joycons on the switch. Holding these makes my hands cramp up after 30 minutes. Luckily i was able to return them to amazon.
