While I don't have this exact model ( have the go bottle, several sawyers, grayl etc. ) a few tidbits of advice based on experience.

Clean this after every use if more than 2 days or so... Run clean water through it ( I use a light disinfectant food grade diluted in it as well) and follow the instructions on blowing it back out and drying..

Second, these membrane filters are terrible when you first scoop up water and go. It takes a long time to get saturated with water and work well, this is the #1 complaint on the go bottles from lifestraw. It can all be eliminated by filling with water the night before you hike. This will make it significantly easier to get a good water flow out of..

Anyone know much about these type of products? After watching a few zombie apocalypse shows, I've decided to up my "go bag". I had been looking at the Sawyer "mini" filters (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CWFR92M). A two pack is $40 bucks. The Sawyer's are advertised to filter up to 100,000 gallons of water. The Life Straw is only rated for 500 gallons. Is there any advantage to the Life Straw?

Also the Sawyer is a .1 micron where lifestraw is a .2 micron. Just food for thought. I would also recommend the squeeze vs mini if you're going with Sawyer filter

Would be safe to use with brackish water. I travel to developing countries for photography and was wondering if I could just scoop up silty/dirty water from a nearby river and be safe to drink it.

What airport water source are you drinking? From toilets?

The water fountain may as well be the toilet. Regardless, it's collapsed and passes TSA. Pays for itself quickly.

I didn't even think of this! Great space saving way to bring a collapsable water bottle. I'm in for one, primarily, for hiking but now will have this as a backup to my 26 oz Yeti I fly with

Useless at airports. The water is treated and if there are any cryptosporidium or other pathogens, you'd hear about it. It doesn't filter lead or chlorine. But if it makes ya feel better, well then, there ya go.

This item competes more with Kayden BeFree than the external sawyers which you could also use for online gravity filtration.

Treeline review says to get the regular Sawyer filter, not the mini

I did a bunch of research on survival filters. There's basically 3-levels or types of filters: membrane filters, carbon filters, and fancy ceramic filters. Basically membrane filters are the cheapest and most durable, but they generally won't remove smaller particles such as viruses and toxins. This Lifestraw Peak only appears to have a membrane filter, so the water is still gonna taste like mud without a carbon filter. I recommend looking at the Philips GoZero active which uses a combination of the carbon and fancy-ceramic electroabsorbion filters to achieve a higher level of filtration. Otherwise the Epic Water Filters are also a better option if you don't mind spending a little more.

I think it's more so that you have a space efficient way of bringing a water bottle onto the plane rather than lugging around an empty 1liter hard cased hydroflask or similar equivalent. but that might have been too much comprehension for your super smart brain.

The 650ml also 50% off. Got 2 for trail running. The filters have a 42mm thread opening so works for salomon flasks. Thanks!
