Competition. The prices are dropping on all of these smart trainers since zwift released the zwift hub which includes one year of training for $599.

This is the lowest price I've ever seen, which is verified by CCC. Price also available on Amazon.

The Zwift hub is nothing like the Tacx Neo 2T or even the Kickr v5 or v6. Those trainers fell much more realistic than the Zwift hub.

Works fine on a mountain bike. You have to supply the cassette. The extra wheelbase some mountain bikes have will make the sensor that measures cadence, will not be as accurate. Easily remedied with buying a 2nd sensor to mount on the crank arm. I highly recommend getting a sterzo if you plan on using zwift. Makes the bike feel more like a real bike then an old stationary bike.

This is a crazy deal. I bought this at full price many years ago and it has performed really well. This is a no-brainer if you want a high-end smart trainer.

May someone tell me what's the cheapest setup that can do zwift? What do I need besides this? What's the cheapest one with bike included?

They're matching REI [rei.com] prices. The kicker core is $480. A few others are on sale as well.

Was waiting to see if they'd include the motion plates for Black Friday but too good a deal to pass up when I was already planning to buy

The cheapest way to do Zwift is a bike with a speed sensor and a the cheapest "dumb" bike trainer or rollers you can find. This will get you started for the least amount of $$$ but you wont get any smart features like virtual incline resistance and power meter.

The cheapest way to get into zwift with smart features is a bring your own bike and a smart trainer. The cheapest smart trainers are wheel on smart trainers like the Wahoo Kickr Snap or Tacx Flow models to name a few. These will give you virtual incline resistance relative to the percentage of incline and provide speed and cadence sensors and a power meter. They won't feel as natural as a direct drive as they have smaller fly wheels and wheel on trainers aren't as powerful and because of their nature, they are susceptible to tire slip. They also wear out your bike tires whereas direct drive trainers don't since you don't use your back tire.

I would recommend a direct drive trainer if you can afford it. Bikecloset has some from Elite for as low as $350 which is around the price of wheel on trainers. Direct drive trainers connect directly to your bike's drivetrain and the trainer takes the place of your rear tire. They offer more power, higher max incline resistance and I believe their power meters are generally more accurate. Plus they don't wear out your rear tires and no worrying about tire slippage potential since they are paired directly to your drivetrain.

Smart trainers don't come with bikes included so you have to bring your own bike. They do have smart bikes which are a product that resembles a bike. It's basically a smart trainer/indoor bike combo but these are not cheap by any means and are not the route you would take if you are on a tight budget as they are well over $2K+.
