people laugh on why i keep buying dvd's and bluray but truth is you should never solely rely on streaming!
same reason you should have at least 2 tv antennas around the house! if your internet is down for a week you need to learn how to survive and not turn into a southpark episode searching for "internets".

Just a heads up "The consumer-electronics retailer will phase out sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs both in-store and online in early 2024, according to industry sources familiar with the company's plans. Best Buy made the initial decision to end DVD sales nine months ago, according to one source."

Here is hoping they have major discounts on everything (particularly Steelbooks) whenever that happens.

I buy to support the films/works I want to see keep being made. I will say a couple things:
  1. Set up a whole house antenna if you have the budget for it
  2. Streaming has the advantage of HEVC (which I don't think the 4K Blu-ray spec includes) the ability to continuously add features. It's also much more convenient if, like me, you have a very short attention span and are rarely able to watch a movie in 1 sitting. But at the end of the day you don't own the content and need a disc for the latter
Cheers!
4k UHDs are encoded HEVC

No Dolby vision though. I don't think I've found any player that has everything except Sony, and you have to toggle vision on and off every time.
Ub820s have dolby vision... the Sony's supposedly have freezing issues. When asked sony or ub820on reddit, one user said that you can buy the ub820 now or upgrade after the sony frustrates you

Instead of a 2nd tv antenna I keep some books and candles!
Right?! I was like why not get a book or listen to NPR on the radio. Go for a walk. It isn't that serious.

It looks like Walmart and Amazon will be the only places to go to buy my movies next year.

Wait for Amazon? Seriously? Amazon packs and treats products worse than any online retailer. I kid you not, almost everything I order from Amazon these days arrives with some level of damage. Blu-rays, DVDs, and CDs are often completely destroyed, as in crushed into pieces and/or scratched to death. Amazon is simply horrible. They didn't use to be. Fifteen-plus years ago they were awesome about properly packing and shipping items. They'd securely shrinkwrap a stack of Blu-rays/books/DVDs/CDs/whatever to a piece of rigid cardboard that was fitted to a matching box size, guaranteeing the protection of and safe arrival of your orders. Now, they just toss everything into worthless bubble mailers or plastic sleeves, which guarantees damage. They've become a joke. They also frequently send out used items when you purchase new items, or ship out items that were obviously damaged before they ever left their fulfillment centers. And their customer service, which used to be good, has also recently completely gone to pieces. I've been an Amazon customer for 2+ decades, but more and more I'm moving away from ordering anything at all from them. In terms of how they handled and packed your orders, they went from being the best online retailer (long ago), to the absolute worst. At least, that's my experience.
Also keep in mind they will not return for same item anymore, only refunds except for certain items. So if you got a great deal but the car is cracked bye bye sale. Still probably be the same with BB because they just don't have the stock to replace them.

Just a heads up that during their early access Black Friday sale, I purchased 8 of their 4k movies that they had priced at 9.99. I ordered them for shipping and apparently Best Buy lets individual stores do their shipping for certain items, because these were definitely shipped from a Best Buy store and not a warehouse. I know this because these idiots put those giant red stickers on all of my movies with my name on there, then tossed all 8 movies in a freaking giant bubble mailer and mailed them to me. Needless to say, if you care anything at all about the condition of your slipcovers, wait for Walmart, Target, or Amazon to match these prices because it's clear that since Best Buy is phasing their physical movies out, they seriously don't give a crap about these products. I've had decent shipping from them in the past, but this was just ridiculous and I won't be buying any movies from them during their sales.
I don't care about slipcovers other than getting rid of them makes more space on my book shelf for another movie or two. I would sell them but that is too much work and not enough money to make it worth it so i recycle them instead.

yeah something tells me retailers get a cheap thrill out of using the word "black friday" for just about every sale after september first!
just as long as they don't become like my local barber and call it "nubian friday" it's all good!
Why, you don't want a dream on a tight fade?

Australia Just this past week had a day or two of 50% with no internet and claimed it might happen again, more often. One of the power moves is to take down the internet for a short period of time and blame a group then to protect from said group only allow people on who submit to the digital id to log on to the internet. No digital id no internet. Dont think for a sec that it wont be put into your social credit score what you do with your id as well.

Aside from the possibility of the net going down you have the practical means that the company could simply go under and if you have $1000 in digital movies you might have $0 the day after. OR if you go against the grain and get your account canceled. I think its very wise to get your physical movies and they come with digital copies anyways most the time.
Yeah, you're power issues are ridiculous too. Guess that's the price you pay for living in a country where everything has to be shipped and 10-20% of the continent in actually habitable. Sydney was beautiful when I went, but I couldn't live there. Everything is ridiculously expensive.

Most likely and with free shipping and a better return policy. Best Buy sucks DB.
I mentioned this in response to another comment, but their return policy sucks now, particularly on movies. They will not let you replace them, only refund. I got the matrix trilogy and some of the tabs were broken. Now I just have to live with it because I want going to see it on sale for $25 anytime soon. so you might want to order two of everything.
