Also sounds like an opportunity to renew your warranty.

No, not faster. Not even really slimmer. Wouldn't trade a perfectly good PS5 for a slim for any reason. The "upgraded" Pro model is rumored for 2024.

Not bad, but I don't necessarily see the slim as an upgrade over the OG unless you really want that MW3 code at a good discount. I might do something like this when/if a PS5 Pro comes along though.

Does anyone know what the trade in is for a PS5 digital? I cannot see anything on their site to differentiate between disc and digital trade value. I bought mine in December of 2020 when the shortages were at their worst, and I jumped on the digital version. I've been more or less fine with the digital, but having a disc drive would open a lot of "deals" on new games since I wouldn't be at the mercy of the PSN store. I already have pro, so if I can get a PS5 slim with disk for ~$100, I might jump on that today. The only real downside is I have an under desk mount for my PS5 that I'm assuming isn't going to fit the new slim.

I want to get some peoples opinion on this.

I really am not that impressed by the slim edition, so I'm not super motivated to do this.

However, I did purchase my PS five recently off of Facebook marketplace. Allegedly, it was brand new. It did appear to be so.

I got it for a decent discount, but I have no receipt and no warranty.

So I am contemplating doing this deal, getting the call of duty bundle, since I already have Spider-Man, and either selling the game, or just keeping it for myself.

But I wonder if it really is worth all of that for the larger hard drive, the "" newer hardware"

And the one year warranty to somewhat protect my money?

Yes. They usually connect it to their tester and check if it has issues. You may get lucky

If you got it at a discount, I would personally do that 'upgrade' and get the slim

Thanks.. I am thinking about it just to legitimize my purchase. I'm probably being paranoid, but if my sn number was ever reported as stolen or some crazy crap like that, it could get bricked.

Yea, that's why I would do it. Peace of mind, especially if you end up spending a small amount.

I can't comprehend why people see this as an issue, if anything you're increasing drive longevity 2x. Replace drive right before they shut the servers down? You get an extra 5-10 years out of the console for physical media. Laser fails after that? Repair it like any other console disc drive. They're ALL paired to the motherboard nowadays - and no one has been whining about it until now - when Sony GIVES you the option to replace it.

It's a one-time activation people, modularity is the opposite of a problem.

*that said, the console itself is horribly ugly imo
Its a one-time activation, but the activation becomes necessary everytime you reset/restore the ps5. Not a problem now, but maybe 15-20 years down the line.

I would absolutely do this deal if this was the PS5 pro which will have actual enhancements and better performance playing games unlike the slim which doesn't have any upgrades besides being slightly smaller.

This is a good deal if you planned on buying the spidy and COD games. Each are 70.00 plus tax. So, if you trade in your PS5 for a spidy bundle. You get a new console + the game for 100.00. When just the game alone is 70.00.

I have two PS5's and a series X. I'm thinking of trading them all in for 3 slim PS5 bundles. And trading in one in a year or so once the PS5 Pro drops.

why did this thread turn into a conversation about upgrading from a non slim to a slim?

these naming schemes are so lacking that there's no relief in consoles or pc gaming

lord help us all; at least nintendo just has an oled and lcd model to actually make it easy for us; $50 extra to trade up would be great for those handheld but consoles depreciate as badly as pcs

It's absolutely worth it. Responding to what you said, do it. I'm about to be on the way to trade mine in. It's got more space, it's slightly faster, smaller/slimmer, and the Disk Drive is detachable. New Controller, New Warranty. To me it's a no brainer. GameStop is throwing us a Goose Egg.
