I'm a tire installer/technician. The "P" does stand for ''passenger" but it doesn't mean it for just passenger cars. There's the P metric which is made by American standard and then there the euro metric. When tires that doesn't have a P in front of the tires it's euro metric. The Euro metric tires are normally found on European made cars. Main difference is that euro metric have a higher load index. There are a few light truck(LT) tires that uses the P metric system.

Lol, you are right, the 2 next to tires does make it sound like it's for 2 tires. I edited it to take off the 's'.

Passenger for Passenger tire. Which is a softer ride and normally fewer plys compared to a firmer sidewall of a LT or Light Truck tire.

Are you driving a CRV? Defender2 is an older generation of tires and now CrossClimate2 dominated the market. I got a set recently and they're excellent. Expensive though.
