Actually, we have 6 of these (they're the only ones we use in our house) and it does use the unifying dongle. I don't care much for the mouse- I prefer the 7-button plus scroll wheel M510 (but they have cheap switches and fail pretty quickly). Look at the back of the keyboard and you'll see the unifying logo right next to "K270" embossed into the plastic near the bottom edge, right under about where the right ALT key is.

I had read that MK270 had Unifying feature but recently and quietly changed the MK270 and removed the Unifying feature. Did you recently buy yours or have you had them for some time?
I've got a bunch of orphaned Unifying receivers. I wonder if the KB and mouse would actually pair with a Unifying receiver? I'll have to try.
I tried using a Unifying receiver and pairing it with the KB and mouse that come with this set.
Interestingly, the Unifying software recognizes I am trying to pair the KB and mouse, but blocks it saying both are non-unifying (yet it sees I am trying).
I am typing on this keyboard right now. It's great, sturdy and easy to use.
Now I'm looking for a similarly good backlit keyboard that doesn't break the bank (even wired, I don't mind), any suggestions?
Was browsing the neighborhood Goodwill establishment the other day and they had some backlit keyboards. The one thing all the keyboards had in common was that they were wired.
It is the exact same Keyboard K270 & Mouse M185 with UPC # 97855141712 that MK270 has in box with UPC # 97855089816.
I opened one of the display boxes at store to verify. Walmart also has these priced at $17.99 to $21.48 depending on the store. I actually bought the Logitech MK270 at Best Buy for $27.99 but now gonna see if Best Buy will price match Target at $19.99 since they are the same product. It's just Target and Walmart package theirs without any product model # on box & a different UPC #. Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo for Windows, 2.4 GHz Wireless, Compact Mouse, 8 Multimedia and Shortcut Keys, 2-Year Battery Life, for PC, Laptop https://www.walmart.com/ip/605403536
Also a few days ago Amazon was selling the MK270 set renewed for $12.99 with decent reviews.

Doesn't really say K270 on the box but it looks the same. We use them for all the PCs in the office
