lol this is going to sound ridiculous and it is, but that is one of the ugliest pieces of unifi gear I've ever seen.

While I am more interested in functionality over appearance, I would agree that most UniFi equipment usually has more visual appeal than this unit.

disregard. I'm not sure I understand even how to purchase UI care or if it comes standard if you buy directly from their store or if it's an additional cost.

original-I would have sworn that B&H was an authorized reseller like Streakwave but according to this they are not.

Oh nice a sale on this, I am tempted to migrate from Google Nest to the Unifi protect system but if I do go that route, the initial hardware cost will be high.

Good deal! Actually works out to about $5 less than I paid for one last month after shipping was added. Bought it for $399 via a deal at the link below, but shipping was about $35. I use the B&H Payboo card so no sales tax and free shipping, plus they're an authorized reseller. Would have been better off waiting. Oh, well. TU and repped.

I am conflicted with the same decision. I have 2 Nest Hellos and 3 gen 1 outdoor cams, with a Google Hub display. The doorbell alert is audible on all 4 home and home minis. It's been very reliable, but I don't want to pay the subscription any more.

$8 per month over the next 4 years is still cheaper than any Unify solution.

Do it! Didn't the annual price to google go up to 180 a year per cam?

It's $150/year now for 10 days of recording for unlimited cameras which isn't entirely bad but my Nest Outdoor IQ camera's are getting up there in age and they don't have a replacement. I think if Google gets rid of the Nest app and the Nest web browser site, I think I would be more inclined to switch.

If I do this Unifi protect, I would need to get a few new cameras, a new doorbell, the NVR, probably a POE switch and probably a Dream Machine SE.. alternatively I could do a self build with the Blue Iris software and some other brand cameras..

It works only with UniFi cameras
I don't think bhp is listed as a registered reseller
Warranty only applies if you buy through UniFi webpage
It's definitely a gamble

Does not sound great going from one closed ecosystem to another. Ubiquiti cameras do not even play nice with other systems, they say they can run standalone and support RTSP, but the implementation is poor in my experience. Blue Iris has been my go to so far, but there are some other NVR softwares that are starting to look attractive.

But after spending some time on ipcamtalk, I just got a bunch of empty snob answers pointing me to long wiki articles that just added more confusion. So I gave up and just bought a few unifi g5s and with scrypted I have feeds into HomeKit for notifications and plenty of local storage. I wanted higher quality low light performance cameras but just never got it figured out.

I have been on that forum, and your experience is apt.

Ubiquiti has a pretty polished solution that is pretty simple to setup. Same goes for the Google/Ring/etc but at least Ubiquiti is a step removed from cloud services.

Really depends on how much you are willing to tinker. You pay out the nose for the Ubiquiti hardware though. $400 for a 2k AI camera, and their only PTZ is $1800.
