lol this is going to sound ridiculous and it is, but that is one of the ugliest pieces of unifi gear I've ever seen.
Only works with Ubiquiti cameras. No 3rd party / ONVIF support.

Can you connect other cameras to this? I just saw the post that it doesn't lol
Unifi cameras only.
They're the Apple of network gear.

Look at Scrypted.app if you're looking for local control and cross-vendor support.

I have this and have 34 cameras on it with 16TB per HDD maxed out at 7 drives. It works amazingly well and there's a reason it's a closed ecosystem. The security and quality of the picture even at 2k blows away anything I've seen from pro or consumer grade. It works like the nest with quick jog timeline and you can create custom views for different users, ie guards or site managers. It's pro grade at consumer price level.

Was already running protect on a UDM-Pro, but went ahead and bought after reading reviews on how much this reduced UDM-Pro cpu load by offloading the cams. Have been concerned about that so hoping to see the same.

Wish they made g5 pro turret cam, would switch immediately. Don't feel like constantly dealing with spiderweb issue on bullet cams.

I am conflicted with the same decision. I have 2 Nest Hellos and 3 gen 1 outdoor cams, with a Google Hub display. The doorbell alert is audible on all 4 home and home minis. It's been very reliable, but I don't want to pay the subscription any more.

$8 per month over the next 4 years is still cheaper than any Unify solution.
I moved to UniFi for a few reasons. One you can update the hardware in parts after the initial investment without major issue. Individual devices can be controlled and managed remotely 95%. I also wanted something I could setup a site-to-site VPNs for use with GCP. Major and minor updates focused on features added are a big requirement. Finally I knew I wanted something that could control via a GUI for at least 60-75 b%.

I never said anything about cost. When buying goods and services you can generally request two out of three requirements: Quality, Speed, and cost. HTH

I recently moved and wanted to put up several quality cameras with large sensors. Each corner of the house has cat6. But after spending some time on ipcamtalk, I just got a bunch of empty snob answers pointing me to long wiki articles that just added more confusion. So I gave up and just bought a few unifi g5s and with scrypted I have feeds into HomeKit for notifications and plenty of local storage. I wanted higher quality low light performance cameras but just never got it figured out.
I'm running a G3 bullet cam in my back yard and was fairly unimpressed with the low light performance. Got a dawn/dusk IR floodlight and disabled the onboard IR. Detail and range is amazing - good as daylight.
