Wildly easier cleanup. You unscrew the bottom of the AeroPress and extrude the grounds directly into your garbage/compost. Much more civilized that trying to scrape wet grounds out of a French press by hand.
Precise extraction time. Even after pressing the plunger of the French press, the grounds continue to soak and extract.
Finer filter. The paper filter of the AeroPress leaves a cleaner extraction than wire mesh and also allows you to grind finer.
Cons:
A French press has much higher capacity. It's tough for me to make more than 2 servings in the AeroPress. Allegedly you can add more grounds and dilute with water after, but I usually end up brewing multiple batches if I need that much coffee.
No glass option. The AeroPress inventor stands by independently verified BPA-free results. Still, I feel safer mixing hot water with glass than any form of plasic.
The rubber plunger material of my oldest AeroPress has gotten sticky, like an old mouse or game controller, making it harder to press through the extraction chamber. My newer models don't have this issue.
