Is there a way to use these gift cards in store to buy iPhone?
Cashier would prob ring up each gift card you give? My assumption, but you should call the actual store you go to before buying and find out.

Of course! I'll start from the beginning since there are two different packaging of Apple Gift Cards (one with hologram protection where you have to rip a portion of the back to scan the activation code, and the older version where the activation barcode is visible without having to rip any part of the back). They both look very similar. Please refer to the photos.

Grab $100 Apple GCs and take them to the self-checkout terminal. For each transaction, you have to scan the Apple GC twice - once for the item barcode and then again for the activation barcode. Start by scanning the small barcode on the corner of the back of the Apple GC packaging. This will prompt you to scan the activation barcode. If your Apple GC has a visible activation barcode in the back (a larger barcode), you can scan the activation barcode without opening a sealed portion in the back. If you do not see a second, larger barcode in the back of your Apple GC and instead see a red "STOP" box with a small hologram, you have to open the pre-cut portion to find the activation barcode. You should see some small message about the $15 Target GC promotion under the Apple GC line item on the terminal. For me, the self-checkout terminal prompted me to enter my Target Circle phone number at this point. I entered my phone number for every transaction, although the cashier mentioned that the $15 promotion applies to non-Circle members as well. Hit "Pay" on the terminal. This will show you a message that you have a $15 Target GC offer and to scan a gift card. Target stores usually have blank gift cards behind each self-checkout terminal for similar offers. Grab one of those cards and scan it. If it scans successfully with a success beep, the terminal takes you to the payment screen without any "success" message (which felt a bit weird). Pay and repeat. I always checked the receipt after each transaction to make sure that the $15 amount was loaded into the Target GC.
Well said but a couple of things here:

1. There are 3 types of gift cards. Prior to the Hologram there was ones that had the card exposed so the interior card could be scanned directly and the "card swap" trick would no longer work for the scammers but did not have the tear off hologram, these started showing up a few months ago. I personally would never purchase any of the "original, sealed style cards" due to fraud risk.

2. Save yourself a scan. You do not need to scan the UPC on the gift card. Just the activation code.

you can only use an apple gift card to pay for purchases made at apple. it's not going to matter where you bought the apple gift card from.
Thanks!

Hello all,

I would like to share my experience after seeing such frantic comments.

I was able to buy 3x digital $100 Apple gift cards online through Target. Now, the trick was to do SEPARATE orders for each $100 GC. Thus, I received 3x $15 e-gift cards from Target (Total $45).

Now, I was in the market for a new phone (coming from an iPhone X) and I wanted the iPhone 15 Pro. So, I would technically only need $1000 worth of Apple gift cards (10x $100 Apple gift cards). Since I reached my 3 quantity limit at Target online, I went in store to purchase the rest. Now, in the store, I went through self check-out and bought each $100 physical Apple gift cards separately. Now for these physical Apple gift cards, you should check the back to see if it was tampered with. The new ones do have the BHN hologram sticker so it is more secure.

The processes of self check-out was scan the physical Apple gift card and then it prompted you to tear the perforated outline so you can scan the actual Apple gift card barcode to activate it.

After, it would prompt you to scan the additional physical $15 promotional Target gift card you earn from the deal (those promotional Target gift cards are usually in bulk and are usually above the check-out screen for those who earn the Target gift cards from a promotion/deal, mind you these are not the same as the regular Target gift cards you would gift someone, the promotional ones are more like flimsy paper texture). So you would scan the promotional Target gift card and it would load the $15 onto that.

Then you would check out as normal however you'd like. Repeat processes until you are satisfied Smilie

Hope this helps!

The gift cards now have a sealed barcode to prevent fraud in store. You have to unseal it upon purchase so they're not fraudulent.

Or you just grab any target gc from the racks and scan. It works the same way.

Definitely check any physical cards from store. Much harder to tamper with than before, but I got a bad one as I did not look very well (my fault). It was clearly suspicious as it had been resealed. Should have taken it to the front desk. It was $25 card and disputed with Discover and they gave me back the $25 in the end/found in my favor.

I went to buy in store and one of the old ones was definitely attempted scamming. Looked good but when I opened it the last letter/number was scratched out but was able to guess a few numbers/letters due to scratch out shape and got it to work before they scammed the $50 from me.

The new cards have no sticker so to me there is no incentive to purchase the updated security cards. Just buy by email. Never had a problem that way.

Decided to not press my luck and just bought a 2nd $100 GC via email (like I've done before and never had problem).

My Target Circle Bonus is 3x$70 for $20 reward. 2/3 of the way there.

I'm curious but are these gift cards at the store easily accessible to anyone without asking an employee? I assume yes? If so, you are saying anyone can easily open it up and enter all these gift card codes into their phone? But they have to open it up and scratch it with a quarter or something?

So how would someone find out what the code is and then put it back to where it belongs? That person just scratches it with a quarter or you need to pull a sticker to reveal the code? Then they just stick it back together like nothing?

That would also mean someone could literally take thousands or tens of thousands of dollars in gift card codes if they don't get caught at the store? Or would they eventually since if that many is added to their target gift account or best buy or whatever, then there would be fraud alert?

Or are they somehow using someone else target or best buy account that they hacked and then use it? So when that person go and buy products at target or best buy and use their phone with the stolen gift cards, there is no issue since they are just scanning to pay or they check id somehow?

I also can't imagine a person using their own target account or a hacked target account to order online since even if they do, well that person is going to ship the items to their address? Well they can still ship it to a dropoff location but they still have to use their real name though right?

I'll answer my own question with a NO. The gift cards load to the Account section of the Apple wallet and I cannot use this section to purchase Apple Care. It looks like you can only purchase Apple Care with a physical credit card. Oh well.
A google search indicates some people have success using apple gift card to purchase Apple care only at the apple store. Plus the apple gift card can NOT be loaded into the apple account balance already.

I plan on trying this out to get apple care for my iphone.
