I picked this one up today and can chime in on a few quick things.

Yes, it's not the quickest thing, however it can be very fast with some small tweaks.

1) Opted out of S mode - pretty painless.

2) debloated - just manually uninstalled the preinstalled apps. Im sure there's a quicker way to do it with a script.

3) quick adjustments to turning off privacy, notifications, things that send data to Microsoft.

4) 4GB of memory is soldered and added a 8GB DDR stick on the open RAM Slot. System recognizes 12GB now.

5) Open m2 SSD slot - Popped in a old 250 GB Samsung 970 Plus. Boots perfectly and much faster plus have the built in 128GB eMMC for storage. The SSD operates at 3500Mbps where as the eMMC storage is at around 300Mbps.

6) There is also a SD card slot for more storage.

Includes 1 year of office 365 which is solid value if you were already paying $70 a year for it.

The only con I find is the screen. It is VERY lackluster and leaves alot to be desired. It is usable, but thinking of plugging in a monitor if I was going to do any lengthy work on it.

USB C only does data, no charging or display port, however I knew that going in.

It is light and plasticky in a good way and the blue makes it seem more expensive than it is.

Yes I used Macrium Reflect to clone the disk, then the below instructions change the boot disk to the new SSD drive. Afterwards, formatted the 128GB eMMC storage using the disk management tool.

Step 1. Type "UEFI" in the start menu.

Step 2. Click "Change Advanced Startup Option

Step 3. Click "Restart Now" in the Advanced Startup" section

Step 4. After the computer reboots it will come up to a blue screen with "Continue", "Turn off your PC", "Use a device" and "Troubleshoot". Go ahead and click "Troubleshoot"

Step 5. Click "Advanced Options" and click "UEFI Firmware Settings" and click "Restart"

Step 6. This will open the BIOS screen. Go to the "Boot" menu and make sure that option "eMMC" is on the bottom and your SSD is above it.

Not sure why people make such a big deal out of this, let alone a factor in the buying decision. You can simply opt out if it during your initial set up.

I actually had planned to and got talked into this instead for less money.

Why do say that?
don't buy chromebooks.. they're so useless. there are so many things you can't do with a chromebook. like literally running desktop applications. I'd much rather have this idea pad. THAT SAID.. I'd also say save a bit more and get some of the $300 options that are popping up. only the ignorant buy chromebooks. however, google has done an amazing job at advertising their chromebooks.. to the point where ppl actually say, "buy a chromebook instead" lmfao

S mode is a trap. Must buy all apps through the app store the m$ store.

which basically means no open source, no freeware etc
Everyone knows you can easily get out of S mode. Several other comments have also provided detailed steps too.

I got this laptop the last time it was on sale at this price and I highly recommend it. make sure you immediately disable S mode!!!!

I upgraded this laptop to the max 12 GB RAM (bought 8 GB for $15) and bought a 1 TB NVMe for $25 (MSI M450 new, which I still need to install).

that $40 investment turns this laptop with lots of storage into a pretty good laptop for only $190.

it has no problems with basic things like browser surfing, YouTube, chrome casting to tv, photo editing, documents, and even games, as it has no problems emulating up to PS2 quality games (perfect for fightcade), but will struggle with more modern games (I was only getting 3 FPS on USF4).

What kind of ram does it take? Would this be better than a low to mid range chrome book?

How did you stick the 8 gb ram stick in? Do you have to open up the chassis? Thanks

If you can upgrade the ram than it makes this laptop worth it. 4gb of ram sucks on modern windows

Of coz you will need to remove the bottom chassis, usually not really difficult for Lenovo laptop. You may take a look of this video:
https://youtu.be/resveAVxeTc

The soldered 4GB RAM is DDR4-2933. Any DDR4-3200 SODIMM will fit the slot perfectly.

I'm assuming S mode can be opted out/'disabled' at a later time after setup? I haven't ever used S mode before, but things I've seen online seem to indicate this can be done after setup too.

Does Office 365 come as a code? I already have the family 365, wondering if I could pass that on to someone else instead.
The last time I had to disable s mode was with enlisted 10. It required a Microsoft account. There's no way to do it without an Microsoft account.
You can remove the Microsoft account afterwards though. Not sure if that's possible in Windows 11.

Chromebooks can run local applications. You can run Android and Linux applications including Steam.
