Just a heads up in case you didn't know, the daily limit got decreased to 3,000mg (down from 4,000) over a decade ago, in 2011. "The risk of liver injury primarily occurs when patients exceed the current maximum dose of 3,000 mg within a 24-hour period."

Acetaminophen aka Tylenol hit's your liver and about 150 americans die each year from overuse.

Ibuprofen (advil, mortin) hits your kidneys and is generally safer but has more concerns for your stomach if taken regularly. Diabetics and or those with kidney disease should monitor usage closely.

Be aware much of the cold/flu meds have acetaminophen in it, not to mention if you drink or binge drink you need to limit your tylenol.

I've read recently that if aspirin were to be created today, it would never get FDA approval and would never make it to the shelves. Weird how just because it's been around for so long, we assume it's safe to use.
Correct. The term used is GRAS (acronym for 'generally regarded as safe'). This was implemented long ago for food and medicine items that have been used safely in the past, and need little to no regulation. Examples of food related items are salt, pepper and other spices.

The big 3 warehouse clubs usually offer larger sizes with slightly better pricing, per pill.. however, the prices have increased over the years.. used to be you could get 2x 500 pills for less than $10.

3,000 mg is the adult daily limit for Acetaminophen.
Acetaminophen's product label (take this one for example) is 4000mg daily max (do not exceed).

In general, the "standard" dose is 2x 500mg caps, max every 6 hours, so 1000mg @ QID dosing = 4000mg. YMMV based on other variables as you mentioned.

Unless you are using another country's recommendations, max daily dose for ibuprofen is 3200mg per day for osteoarthritis and 2400mg per day for dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).
Max dose for acetaminophen is still 4g, however there are many recommendations to stay on the lower end of 3g daily limit, especially for smaller bodies.

Of course, these doses are for adults of a minimum mass and not including comorbidities that can affect your max daily dose, like kidney disease.
Every bottle of 200mg Ibuprofen says "do not exceed 6 capsules per day, unless directed by a doctor". 6 x 200mg = 1,200mg, so that is the general adult daily limit for Ibuprofen. Like I said, in my post, for other conditions (osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhea, etc. as you mentioned) yes it can vary, depending on what permission your doctor grants based on your body type, medical conditions, etc. The general limit still exists.

Even in that link they specifically warn "But in some people, doses close to the 4,000 mg daily limit for adults could still be toxic to the liver. It's safest to take only what you need, and to not exceed 3,000 mg a day whenever possible, especially if you use acetaminophen often."

Heard a similar thing about sugar something along the lines of it would be treated as a drug because of its effects.

Any deals on ibuprofin?... I just about finished my bottle from the last FP deal...
be careful with ibuprofen. I wound not recommend take more than total of 400-600mg daily, even so i would not take it in daily basis more than 1-2 weeks regularly, so many of my patient end up in dialysis due to ibuprofen/aleve

lol what. They end up in dialysis because of chronic high blood pressure, not because of ibuprofen.
