High-end flashlight tips!


You probably don't want Anduril in your high-end flashlight.
Anduril only works with FET drivers, which are less efficient than boost or buck drivers. Your light won't last as long on a charge.
The SC33 has a boost driver, which lets it last far longer and put out more light without overheating.

(Flashlight nerds can get deep into electrical topologies that involve both kinds of drivers, but in practice this is rare and you won't see it on cheap flashlights like this.)

Next thing!
All small flashlights will only run in 1000+ lumen "turbo" mode for seconds to a few minutes.
The small flashlight body can't dissipate enough heat to let them stay on turbo mode for long.
Sustained output of any small tube flashlight is usually 500-750 lumens.
That's why I value efficiency over max output.

The SC33 is very efficient, and lasts a long time with the 21700 battery. Its closest competition is the Wurkkos TS22, which is $39 right now. There are plenty of reviews out there to tell you the minor differences between them.

Was about to pull the trigger but then saw that it's not running Anduril, it's a standard single tailswitch. Still great specs for the price, but was expecting Anduril given that it's new and from Sofirn.

Was about to pull the trigger but then saw that it's not running Anduril, it's a standard single tailswitch. Still great specs for the price, but was expecting Anduril given that it's new and from Sofirn.

With Anduril does it default or can it be set up to never strobe? I hate the idea of an operating system in a flashlight, but if it kills strobe modes for good I could be a fan.

Great question. Anduril is pretty powerful and granular with the options but I'm not familiar with absolutely everything it can do so I'm not sure about that. I'd recommend going to Google with the question since there's lots of info out there (mostly from Reddit)

Thanks. Looks like it is possible by downloading the source code, modifying, and flashing the firmware. Sounds too much like my job, but I will weigh it against getting my eyes blasted.

There's simple UI mode or Muggle mode or some things you can disable. Maybe not disable strobe completely besides Muggle mode or something. You'd have to triple click or whatever to get strobe. So it's not on the usual rounds anyways - just brightness levels on a smooth ramping or stepped ramping.

Can confirm that strobe isn't in the main cycle from low to bright to low, you have to specifically click a sequence for strobe mode, I don't even remember what it is because I haven't used strobe since the day I first learned anduril

In high or turbo? At this lumen it is kind of expected in my opinion. I do not expect to run at max for more than a couple of minutes.

Lol it's 5,000 lumens not 500 yeah its going to get hot! My 4000 lumen sofrin can make black paper catch fire and melt plastic.
