Reminder to PS5 owners, Sony removed ability to save game data to USB. Only backup available is through PSN. You can lose hundreds of hours of game play. Ask me how I know.

The Essential tier is now $80! Are you kidding me? Total insanity. I will never be renewing my Plus membership. I'm done, forever. I thought $50 was even ridiculous, but at least back then it could regularly be had for $25-40, depending on the available sales. But $80 for the base service! Holy cow...

My PSN is good until 2032. It's trying to charge me $441.26 to upgrade until then. Is anyone else with stacked years running into similar numbers?

Former PS4 daily driver here. I sold my PS4 when I upgraded. I got my PS5 about 2.5 years ago and have turned it on *MAYBE* 3 times total. I honestly probably wouldn't be able to navigate the XMB if I turned it on right now. That's how alien it is to me. Why have I not used my PS5?

Because now my daily driver is PC Master Race and I could not be any farking happier. $5K up-front on one build sure doesn't look too bad when factoring in these subscription prices. Especially when you factor in the wife's subscription also. Now I even converted her to PC. So now I just buy the new parts every year, hand her down my now 1-year-old parts, and sell the 2-year old ones and get 70-95% of the cost back from the new price.

Idc wtf they want to say, no console could dream of making anything as pretty or fluid (fps) as my 4090.

I'm not trying to sound elitist, just trying to convey how truly disgusted I am with PS. I've spent nearly $10k the last 2 years building PCs to avoid them! I'm not paying $500 for a console, $70 for each game, $55 per month for my ISP (YMMV), AND this extortion price for Plus just so I can have *one* place to buy digital games, free subscription-locked shovelware every month, access to a cesspool of online cheaters, and a network that you can bet money will probably get hacked every Christmas. Jim Ryan has clearly been hitting Dr. Funky's Space Weed hard af the last few years.

As others have said, just can't see the value here. All the PS+ free games over the years, there's a few I'd wish I'd take the time to play, but the backlog is so immense, I'll be just fine moving on to something else. Past that, I am trying to figure out what Essentials is worth for $64. Cloud saves I guess? But with 1 PS5 as the primary system, doesn't seem necessary either. Fortnite and those kinds of games are free to play online, so don't need that feature either.

My Essentials sub expires today, and I think for the time in 15 years, I'm going to go without it for the foreseeable future. These deal prices are still higher than I've ever paid for it.

Woof...as an unabashed PS fan still rocking my PS4...this is maybe the letdown of the year. My PS+ expires in a few days and really don't play it anywhere near enough to support an upgrade in place, but the fact that I'd basically be renewing at the same price leads me to most likely just cancelling it before I get hit with another $80...I honestly haven't played ANY of the games I have in my library either, so it just makes sense at this point. And I'm going to be upgrading to a PS5 at some point, but these are the same prices that other retailers have had for weeks already on hardware. I know I'm a single voice among the chorus here, but man...that's like, a bummer dude. (Apologies as I watched TBL last night...)

I might have to somewhat amend myself: when I logged in after poking around a bit I did find my current membership listed for 20% off when I went to my Subscription Management link...so if you haven't done that, you may not be seeing the discounted price for current members...
