False.
224+ has Intel cpu and GPU.
Hardware transcoding works great on this box.

DS224+ is Intel, not AMD. Just stop posting.

2 bay has been great for me so far, very reliable. Upgraded the ram and using a USB Ethernet 2.5Gbps for better speeds.
Which RAM did you upgrade for DS224+?
It only supports 6GB RAM officially.

Any deals on 8 bays?
Super rare, but now seeing someone replied to you about a deal that came in a week ago. Again, super rare.

Excuse my ignorance, I haven't dealt with NAS since 2016. Is there an app that backs up my photos on my iPhone anywhere in the world? Like apple cloud or google drive?
Amazon prime is unlimited for photos but not videos

I saw $580 recently. I might be tempted.
Please share the link for 1522+ @580. I did not see anywhere less than 669.

This was like 2 months ago I thought. Missed it and wish I hadn't.
Hoping the 1821+ goes back on sale for $850 and that can be the last purchase in a while

Is DS 223 good for storing photos , videos and any other documents? I am thinking of getting some sort of storage rather than paying for cloud.
Does this sync automatically using an app?
How reliable is this? I know this might sound odd but want to make sure I understand the cons with this - With cloud I am thinking nothing will get lost or corrupt? How about with this?
I am trying to get this for personal use with family members and have zero knowledge.

Is it good for storing your stuff, yes it is. If the goal to replace cloud storage then make sure to grab 2 hard drives to set them as Raid or SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid).
The Synology apps are great at automatically syncing your stuff.

Now the cons vs cloud is, all your stuff is in one location, so God forbid a fire or break-in happens and your NAS is damaged or taken then you just lost everything.

Personally to combat this because I am paranoid, I ended up buying a second NAS that I have running at a family house that syncs and backs up the important documents and the family photos and videos (I won't be broken if I lost my movies and shows since I can get those back). So in essence I created my own cloud situation by having the backups in different locations.

I hope that gave you a rough idea, it might seem like a lot when you start but once you set it up, it is very smooth sailing with Synology.

It is one of the software options people use to organize and play movies and shows from their NAS to any Internet connected device.

Pardon my ignorance... but how would Synology compare against a TrueNAS on an home server. I built it last year with 2 12TB drives from server part deals and they are running great so far. I do not leave it running 24/7 but only when I need to backup or retrieve.
You seem happy with the setup you got. Is there a use case that you are looking for that's missing in your nas life?

I'm currently running my Plex server on a mini PC with a 5-bay HDD docking station attached to it. I've had a couple people asking my why I didn't just get a NAS instead, but they always fail to provide me any advantages, and if I wanted to get as many bays as my current setup I'm looking at over double the price even compared to these sale prices.

So perhaps someone here could fill in the gaps those people failed to explain to me. What advantages would I gain over using my current setup when it comes to my Plex server and are those advantages worth double the price?
