You should find a deal for Paramount+ if you're a trekkie. Almost all the movies and tv series, in the best quality.

But some movies/shows I like to acquire so they don't rely on a subscription. That way if I ever stop the subscription, or the streaming service stops carrying that movie, I don't loose access.
Also, I spend a lot of time at my remote cabin with no service. With vudu I can "download" the show to my phone and it is there permanently... With the streaming services they time out. And actually paramount+ doesn't let you download shows unless you are on premium.
Are the movies worth watching if I've never seen star trek?
IMO, some are, but all would be better having come to know the characters first from the TV shows.

Now that I think about it I think I own the original series but I've just never watched it.
The second one (The Wrath of Khan) doesn't require you to know anything about the first one and is considered by many to be the best. It stands alone, though II-IV are a great trilogy in which each one builds on the previous one. V is garbage and can be skipped without missing anything story-wise. VI is probably my personal favorite and it stands alone as well.
If you find you like Trek as a result of these, there's so much more out there to explore.

I remember the first movie really freaked me out as a kid. When the guy died in the transporter and then the couple melded together at the end. I haven't seen it since because the movie spooked me out.
