National Parks in 2024 - 6 Free Entrance Days (One Extra Day Added for 2024)
On six days in 2024, all National Park Service [nps.gov] sites that charge an entrance fee (normally $5 to $35) will offer free admission to everyone. Mark your calendar and plan your free visit for these entrance fee–free dates in 2024. The entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities such as camping, boat launches, transportation, or special tours.

I'm not aware of Zion requiring reservations. You may want to double check. Arches just started a pilot program with timed reservations in April.
Last week Zion was really crowded (maybe because after Easter / spring break crowd) About an hour wait for the shuttle bus around 10am.

Free entrance means free for foreign tourists, but the cost is shifted to all Americans, even those who do not visit. That's OK if it's OK with you and everyone else paying taxes to subsidize the cost of the visit for the tourists.
No National Park costs $100 to enter. You'll likely pay $100-$200+ per person each day for popular amusement parks, versus $15-$35 per carload that is often a 7-day pass as well, to enter a National Park. If you have 2-4 per car and stay several days, you could be spending less than $1/ person per day for the entrance fee.
But, I like the idea of subsidized, and cheaper fees for lower income locals to visit their National Parks.
